Looking at the different regions via mysmartenergy.uk they are not all the same. I found a list on Guy Lipman's site but is it still current?PennineAcute said:
I downloaded the Eastern prices for today. They are identical to my NW prices.t0rt0ise said:
The multiplier varies by region doesn't it, but they don't give them.NedS said:Newbie_John said:
Probably more interesting question why tomorrow 22:30 costs 5p and today 10p if the sale auctions were quite similar 54-58 euro?NedS said:Question - why do tomorrow's Agile rates sometime end at around 10:30 or 11:00pm, missing the last couple of 30min periods? For example, tomorrow's pricing only goes up until 10:30-11:00pm and there is no pricing for the last two 30min slots. The Agile price is based on the wholesale price as determined by the Octopus formula here:Outside of peak times (4-7pm), it's simply 2.2 x wholesale price(p)Today's price at 22:30 is 11.4p and tomorrow's price is 6.3p (inc VAT), so the wholesale prices must have been 4.94 and 2.73p, respectively (wholesale prices are ex-VAT)You can get the wholesale prices for your region here:
The multiplier is the same (I would gauge from this) for all regions.

Switched over now, and still says I am on variable DD, Octopus may have fixed the DD changing when tariff changed now.

I can confirm that the multiplier (2.2) and adder (12p) appear correct for my region (i.e, wholesale price and Agile price match when calculated using those values).t0rt0ise said:

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but here goes ... I've been with Octopus since July last year and on Agile since December. With a couple of rewards I managed to end up with £175 in credit. I've averaged use of about £35 a month through the winter and have had £75 repaid and reduced my DD to £30 a month, however I am still in credit by about £90 as of today and the next DD goes in on 24/4. Does it make sense to withdraw whatever credit is there at the next bill and then up the monthly DD to £35? My gas is on a pre-payment meter. Any thoughts much appreciated.Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027
Satisfied customer of Octopus Agile - past savings on average 33% of standard tarrif
Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.0 -
Why not opt for a variable direct debit and simply pay for what you use each month?2

Yep either go for a variable dd or take more credit back from Octopus. I’d suggest you leave the maximum or a months bill in there as credit.MikeyPGT said:Not sure if this is the best place to ask but here goes ... Thanks both - I find it easier for budgeting to stick to the same amount each month but wasn't sure how much of a buffer I should have as I've not been on DD since before the energy market went mad!Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027

You can always open easy access saving account (chase 4.1%), keep paying there the same amount each month and have variable direct debit set up there. There is really no point of keeping large balances at Octopus or underpaying and finding missing £xxx last minute. And you get interest too ..MikeyPGT said:Thanks both - I find it easier for budgeting to stick to the same amount each month but wasn't sure how much of a buffer I should have as I've not been on DD since before the energy market went mad!1 -
When I've built up a credit balance I simply adjust the monthly DD online, to say £10, then monitor the balance over the months and then reset to roughly what my actual monthly amount will be. I've been on £10/month all winter and have just adjusted my next payment to £50, now the credit has been used up.1

So the first full month on Agile. Transferred 15th Feb.
Average Agile price for the month is 13.34p kWh which works out 52% cheaper than the Flexible Octopus rate and over 5p kwh cheaper than Tracker or 26% cheaper if percentages float your boat.
December Tracker 2023 v1 would have worked out at 18.5p kWh.
We used 804 kWh (ASHP, largish house with outbuildings that needs heating and work from home)
Agile saved us £41.47 over Tracker and £127.60 over flexible.2
