I'm sticking with it. I've not yet had a day that cost as much as the SVT. I'm prepared to take a hit on a few days over the winter and I'll just be extra tight with the electrons to minimise the damage to my wallet. I just wish I had a battery, so I could sail through the day "off grid".

Not that great even with a battery. Very little solar on many days and factoring in losses AC/DC on import/load use of something around 15% in cold weather (my batteries are in the garage) hardly saving anything apart from avoiding the high peak time costs.

If I had my Givenergy A-i-O installed I would have made £13.50 (less overnight charging cost, say £1:50). Tomorrow's saving session would yield £36 and tonight's charging price is under 20p, so less than £2. That would still leave me with 4.5kWh to see me through the day, which is plenty.

The sessions are rare - quite hard to rely on them. There could be just one more for the next few months, who knows. And overall cost of batteries of few thousand pounds lasting for a few years - let's say £5000 cost and they last for 7 years - that's £2 depreciation cost a day - if well played for 7 years you could be few quids up - but not a lot.

I wouldn't have the battery just for saver sessions. I'll be buying to go with solar PV, to maximise my percentage of home consumption. The saver sessions would be a bonus.

    Tomorrow's peaks look brutal. 71p between 16:30 and 17:00.

Difficult to justify the cost of a battery system based on current pricing, particularly as Tracker pricing is almost as good as Agile pricing at the moment (and better on some days). But it's a long term investment - just as you get good days and bad days for Agile you get good years and bad years for battery storage. For me, this has been a bad year and it's probably only saved me a couple of hundred pounds. Worthwhile but not enough to justify the cost. But if you average things out over the time I've had the battery systems and project that average forward the systems will have paid for themselves in about 8 years and after that everything else is profit. So it really all depends on what happens to the energy market and what tariffs are available in the next few years. In my case it's a bit academic - now I have the system I might as well use it and I've certainly seen some big savings most years so far.

This is why I decided to change to tracker.  I was already considering moving to Tracker for Dec/Jan/Feb at least, and when I saw the 14 day forward wind forecasts for almost no wind, I pulled the trigger a few days early.

Charging the car will be more expensive on average than previously, but overall we will probably save money, at least in the winter.  If we decide to re-activate our portable hot tub in the Spring the equation might change, but the best you can really do if you want to alternate Tracker and Agile is 3/9 cycle.
