Octopus Agile

I switched to Cosy (with a heat pump) back in Dec as the Agile prices started to rise to exorbitant levels, and my average import price on Cosy has been around 19p. I'm still watching Agile on Octopus Compare, but I'd need lower average prices than that to tempt me back, although I'm yet to see what April's price increases will be on Cosy. However, we do like the stability of knowing we will get 8h of cheap electricity every day, and knowing exactly when it will be.RavingMad said:There were some decent savings made last week on Agile but not so much this week. Compare app tells me I'm paying just over 19p/kWh this week.

Yeah, I wouldn't be tempted back at Agile's current prices either. I'd keep my eye on emoncms and wait for a decent dip before committing.
With Trump and his sidekick shouting down Zelenksky yesterday, I'm not sure how the gas market will react. So maybe stick with Fix?0 -
I suggested tongue in cheek early Feb thisEssexHebridean said:Looking at the predictions, and knowing that traditionally March and April are expected to be months with more wind and sun, we’re looking at jumping back to Agile from tomorrow I think. While there are still looking like being some issues with the 1900-1930 slot being higher than SVR the balance across the rest of the days will hopefully negate that… Any views on this welcomed!

We jumped back this morning. I know it’s not perfect, and that yes, yesterdays temper tantrum from the 🍊🤡 might well throw things into the air, but it’s looking good enough for me, for the time being, to risk it. Plan is I think to stick with Agile for the next few months regardless and then review again once we’re back from some time away in late spring and see how things are looking.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Tomorrow's prices are higher than I thought they'd be, and the Agile Predict prices for Tues and Weds are much higher than I'd anticipated based on the emoncms forecast, so I've gone back to Cosy. The Agile lows aren't going low enough to bring our average down - thanks to the lows a week ago we saved the grand total of £5.51
- but it was kind of fun to try it out anyway. At least with Cosy the 13p slots are guaranteed. But I'll be keeping my eye on Agile prices, looking for when to jump back on.
[Though to be clear, if Cosy weren't an option and the only other Octopus choices for us were Tracker or the SVT, Agile would currently be a no-brainer.]3 -
I'm sticking with it in the hope that Octopus come up with a reasonable tariff with a lower standing charge. At the moment the standing charge is half as much again as my electric on Agile and gas is about 95% standing charge if not more ...Spoonie_Turtle said:Tomorrow's prices are higher than I thought they'd be, and the Agile Predict prices for Tues and Weds are much higher than I'd anticipated based on the emoncms forecast, so I've gone back to Cosy. Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.0 -
Octopus seems to have used a "high" s/c across all tariffs to fund a s/c six month holiday for those on benefits and very low income rather than lowering their s/c for everyone, so will be interesting to see what they will do come April, especially on TOU, when many s/c's are falling.1

This is going to get interesting because Scottish Gas, one of the most expensive up her in Glasgow, have just dropped their standing charge from 70p down to 50p with a 16 month fix, so i cannot see how Octo can do anythihng but drop their 63p standing charge down to either the same or lower, and of course Octo have been screaming about lower Sc, so now they no longer have the safety net of standing behind the high sc while shouting how they would offer lower Sc if only their hands were not tied, well they just got one of their hands free, so let's see what they do.Although i have never heard of any utility provider offering 0 sc for 6 months, certainly not up here in Scotland which have some of the highest because......i don't because.1

Eon Next 16 Month fix also reflects SC Price Cap model from April 1st, lower SC for regions where transmission costs have reduced without uptick in unit rates.WibbleBaaaaaa said:This is going to get interesting because Scottish Gas, one of the most expensive up her in Glasgow, have just dropped their standing charge from 70p down to 50p with a 16 month fix, so i cannot see how Octo can do anythihng but drop their 63p standing charge down to either the same or lower, and of course Octo have been screaming about lower Sc, so now they no longer have the safety net of standing behind the high sc while shouting how they would offer lower Sc if only their hands were not tied, well they just got one of their hands free, so let's see what they do.1 -
There is nearly £400 in network costs in the cap - only £121 as of last Aug in the SC.steveKn said:the formula for agile ismin(D x W + P, 95)
In this equation,
- D is a coefficient that includes our distribution costs, which varies based on where you are in Britain;
- W is the wholesale cost of electricity for that period in pence per kilowatt-hour (p/kWh);
- P is the peak-time premium, which ranges from 11 - 14 based on where you are, and is only applied between 4pm and 7pm.
- 95 is chosen to ensure the price is capped at 100p/kWh once VAT is added.
D is distribution costs, why are we charged a standing charge on top ?
Rest for electric - if figure for remainder electric vs gas exists does anyone know tge fuel split ? - will be on electric unit rates and the gas well gas all on unit rates.0
