  • Electricity bill just in and £5 less than the 14th Nov bill, think we weathered that storm

Out of curiosity, has anyone with the home mini measured the energy consumption of the device itself?
Someone did (I forget if it was on this board, or another place) aand it's only a watt or so.

Probably not even that. The mini contains an ESP module plus a zigbee module to handle the communications with the smart meter. An esp8266 draws ~70mA with WiFi active, and I would imagine the zigbee module is similar. So say 150mA in all, that works out at 0.75W. If energy saving options have been enabled in the firmware, it is possible that consumption will be even lower.

Thanks everyone for the responses! That’s even lower than I was expecting and definitely less than even my very basic digital clock, so no reason not to see if I can get one in that case.
    Moo…

Looks promising for negative pricing overnight Monday/Tuesday.

Seems like a long distant memory.

i was going to do 2 washes tonight cheapish rates 7p kwh, then i see free slot 10.30pm tomorrow night, everything now on hold for tomorrow
  • I’ll be shoving a load through tonight regardless as there are bits I really want dry for Monday/Tuesday. I will be leaving the load of bedding to do until overnight the following night though in the hope of being able to get it washed around at least mostly dried for not very much money at all! Prices tomorrow suggest that we should do some catching up on the losses we’ve faced over the past few days anyway, although at this point in time we’re still a few £ up overall for the month anyway.

Getting some stuff done tonight, and planning on making the most of tomorrow morning too. I'm away Mon/Tues, so will have to remember to discharge the battery and set the top-up times manually.

Despite the last few days I'm still £8 better off this week on Agile than Flex - although it isn't a direct comparison as I wouldn't necessarily use the same off peak slots.

WM and DW ran overnight, and the weather looks decent enough to get washing out to dry through the day today so I may well get another (probably small-ish, but needed) load on the go shortly, although there is an option to leave that until overnight as predictions for later in the week now look like we may get a decent night for a wash and dry of bedding to work well, and that was the other load I had planned for this evening…

Cooking planned for later I think, so just need to be sure that everything gets done and finished before the peak. MrEH is making the Christmas cake at some stage too, so again, he’ll need to time that carefully as it takes a chunk of time in the oven - he usually does it overnight.

  • I had an interloper washing load last night, next door's rug fits in my machine but not hers, but then I've just snapped my washing line hanging it out! Looks as though my job for the day will be finding the replacement line that I know is somewhere because I keep finding it when I don't need it.

£68 for both gas and electricity for month to yesterday (agile and gas tracker), I'd set my direct debit at £70 from May and so can happily keep it at the summer bill of £50 for a few months now which'll help the savings. I wasn't sure whether I was going to end up needing to double it for the winter but took a punt and it seems to have paid off.

Today I might have bran flakes.  That may save me 1p or even less versus cooking porridge on stove top.

…eat them straight out of the box, saves on heating the water to wash up the dish. :)
