There should be decent prices early hours of Sunday.

OK I'm intrigued - what are you basing that prediction on? Thanks, Mike 😁

What is the difference between "wind" and "wind embedded", please?

I think that wind embedded refers to wind energy generated by turbines not connected to the grid - i.e. the generator uses all the energy themselves. To make the numbers consistent, the generator's total load is included in the demand figures, i.e. including what they've generated themselves. If that makes sense?

    Or something along those lines.....

Large generators report their generation automatically to National Grid. Those are "wind".
Smaller generators attach directly to the distribution networks and don't. Those are "embedded".Their gneration only gets accounted for after the fact, so live figures are estimated.
Every domestic PV system is an embedded generator, and so are almost all commercial solar farms (as they tend to max out at a few tens of megawatts).
Embedded generation is often why you see different generation figures on different websites. Templar Gridwatch, for example, doesn't include embedded wind in its wind generation numbers, while Drax Energy Insights does.
As I type this, Templar is reporting 6.7GW of wind while Drax shows 8.8GW.

  • Does anybody know which figure your IHD uses to calculate how much you've spent? I assumed it is the average for the day, so gives a higher cost than appears on your bill. However, when I back-calculate it, the rate sometimes agrees and sometimes doesn't. I'm pretty certain it doesn't use the current half-hourly rate, because it doesn't deduct cash on plunge days.

I deduct the daily charge before calculating, as that gets bunged on first.

Probably it depends what IHD you are using but on mine, they pushed the average price of the day when I signed up to my IHD and it has t changed since so I pretty much ignore the pricing info on the IHD.   I think you can buy 3rd party IHD that claims to support agile pricing but I can’t comment on whether it works or not.
