Yesterday worked out as a totally free day a far as electricity goes - negative pricing just covered the standing charge. So far today is on 2p but evening peak still to come. Tomorrow looks like a day to be out and about making the most of a sunny day and avoiding not very special rates.Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027

Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.0 -
Even with the last 3 days, I suspect I will be down on Ocotpus Go for the month of November, but the damage will have been mainly mitigated.0

45.89 kWh for 43p yesterday according to Octopus compare, Octopus app gives me -6p excluding SC, so the 43p includes it . And the battery top up from last night has been kept topped up by the little solar we had today, so battery is at 87% capacity which means there shouldn't be too much needed to top it up tonight.0

No battery here and cooked a roast in the peak. 51kWh used yesterday for £1.86 including standing charge. This morning used about 29kWh.No gas used other than hob today or yesterday so that's a bonus, my missus loves the heat and would usually hit about 30kWh of gas regardless at this time of year.Looking at the wind forecast, my Home Assistant automations won't be doing anything for a while now.0

4.8p on gas for yesterday too, makes having the heating on a bit on the prior few days more comfortable. Overall paid less than both standing charges yesterday0

As someone living in a rented mobile home with only electric (including central heating boiler!!) the last couple of days have been very nice , was back down to shorts and T-shirt! and got 5 loads of washing done and dried. Helps to offset the cold snap when I caved in and used the boiler anyway.
kWh Cost £ (excluding SC)

Saturday 23/11/24 18.7 2.6614
Friday 22/11/24 59.7 12.5745!!!!
Thursday 21/11/24 68.7 14.6802!!!!
Wednesday 20/11/24 57.9 10.8182!!!!!
Tuesday 19/11/24 34.4 7.1385
Monday 18/11/24 19.5 3.9266
Of further help is that for reasons known only to themselves octopus are only taking £14.58 a month by direct debit and in true MSE style I have the money earning me interest untill they ask me to clear the defecit.0 -

I'm currently £383 in credit and paying a token £5 by DD. Octopus think that I should be paying £133.09 a month, and have been working with that figure for over a year. We were initially paying £165 which was what they originally wanted. Heaven knows how they are working this out. I know its some amount of historial use, but we've been customers for over a year, and had solar all this time with them. They estimate our annual bill is in the region of £750, so £133.09 a month makes no sense at all.

I think one of the challenges of being on Agile and Tracker tariff is guestimating what the annual bill will be, and therefore what the direct debit should be.
I moved to Octopus in March, and Agile within a couple of days of that. I've also tried hard to reduce my usage this year. And so last year's usage is a bit out (this years cumulative use is at 64% of last years gas and 80% of last years electricity to same bill date) and of course the unit price varies. I've been quite impressed that Octopus have let me tinker a bit with my direct debit, gave me a full refund in May after I'd clearly paid too much and acquired two referral bonuses. I'm currently paying £50 a month which was roughly the summer bill, on average I'll have paid £70 a month between May and December and have a credit balance of £180, I'm going to leave the DD at £50 a month and let the balance fall for now. When I was with Eon there'd have been no chance of them letting me do that even though they had years of data I'd get to January with a big credit balance and spend the whole month asking for a balance refund0 -
Their variable direct debit, need to phone them to set up, has been very good for me on Agile and they give 14 days notice of the amount they want to take (it would be zero if you have credit greater than the bill, BTW), the only slight downsize is if you change tariff or payment method it does tend to generate a bill so might have two DDs in the same month until it settles down again. Compared with the constant hassle from the likes of BG to increase the DD it is much easier and less wasteful of my money, albeit with higher bills during the three months of winter (which were covered by the winter fuel allowance until the rules changed).0

I've had my DD set to £1 and kept paying by Chase 1% cashback card on the day the bill arrived. Never had a balance over £5 with them.1
