Having just seen the Agile prices for tomorrow, if anyone wants me I shall be lying down in a darkened room...
Can we club together and send you some candles ?

😂😂 Mr EH was so affronted by the prices from 0600 this morning he insisted on setting the breadmaker to finish prior to that!

  • I've got no gripes about the odd horrific day on Agile - I'm still at an average of under 16p/kWh since we switched to it, with £15 savings over SVR in each month, plus associated savings on gas on the days when we've used electric for heating instead. The odd day of needing to think a bit harder about what we use and when, particularly where there are better days indicated on the horizon, comes with the territory!

I've just subscribed to the Octopus Compare app, and the data shows that despite the last few expensive days, since joining Agile in October I've had an average unit cost of 13.07p, and it's working out 27% cheaper than it would have been on Flux import, 39% cheaper than Flexible Octopus. Clearly the Flux import comparison isn't exact as my load shifting would be a little different if I'd stayed on it, but it still feels as if overall it's the right move. Even if I'm putting off doing the laundry at the moment!

Even given the horrible prices last month, the Octopus app is tellling me I spent £27.42 on electricity (excluding SC) last November as opposed to £13.50 this year! I haven't physically checked back on last year's bill but that seems like a pretty good deal to me ...

Do bear in mind that if you used extra energy  for heating etc when the unit rate was very low, that figure from Compare is no longer meaningful.

It's not 'extra', it's simply shifted from the oil. Which I realise Compare can't take into account, but as a proportion of my heating is designed to be electric (four electric towel rails), I think it's probably pretty fair. Oh, and I'm heating the hot water from the immersion when rates are low, as well as from excess solar. Either way, it's pretty clear I'm saving overall both on electricity costs and on oil.

Why not? I thought that this was precisely what Compare could pick up.
