If you sign up for a free hour, and get charged for any usage during that hour, then they do refund you. It is unfortunate you signed up for a free hour where agile had negative pricing, so my only recommendation would be to wait until nearer the time before choosing your slots.

when you go into the supermarket, and they have a special offer for a product you don't use, do you demand to see a manager to make a complaint that "it's not fair" because you can't make use of that special offer? or do you just accept that sometimes an offer might be for you, and other times, it is not?

There is at least one energy supplier routinely offering free electricity on a Sunday at the moment I think - I can't recall who it is, but I'm sure someone will know. Perhaps you want to email them as well as presumably you can't make use of that offer, either!

FWIW, I've cheerfully used several of the Happy Hours to date and have saved money accordingly. I chose not to activate any yesterday as indeed prices were negative and frankly I was already doing very well out of the situation. Assuming prices aren't negative next Sunday, I'll use another couple then. All good, no complaints here.

They did deliver them - you got the option of using a free hour, anywhere between 7am and 3pm on Sunday. If I have this right, you are complaining you could not use electricity for free during this time because you were actually being paid to use electricity that was negatively priced? I doubt you will get any sympathy here.

I cancelled my slots yesterday because being on Tracker it was almost 50% cheaper and I will save them for next week when it maybe high again.

I only realised too late that they had a slot available at 3pm - I could have used one of mine then! I suspect I will end up with one spare one, but of course they may yet extend the scheme anyway - we'll see.

I hadn't even bothered looking, so you're doing better than me!

I must check tomorrow's pricing and sort out any battery top-ups I need. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stick it out on Agile with the heat pump, but it's working out better than Cosy would so far…

Every other customer who has participated and succeeded in the Power Down sessions gets offered Happy Hours, regardless of what tariff we're on. It just so happens that one weekend the tariff YOU are on is negative and the Happy Hours are of no benefit to you. That doesn't mean Octopus should not offer them on that day, just because some customers on the niche tariff don't benefit.

In fact with negative pricing on Agile you're effectively getting even Happier hours most of the day, not just free electricity but actively getting paid for it! For more than two hours (the maximum Happy Hours anytime can book in a day)!

I’m on Cosy at the moment. We are hoping to get solar panels and a battery installed in the next month. Thereafter I’d like to consider Agile.
I have the Octopus Compare App at the moment and can see that with my current use Cosy is cheaper than Agile. However I am timing my usage to suit Cosy 🤔
I know I’ll have to wait for the set up of export, and it’s winter and it’s Scotland so I’m not expecting miracles from the installation.
What do others recommend- staying on Cosy to “see how it goes” or jumping over to Agile at the earliest opportunity ?

My current Cosy Fix has no exit fee.
    We have an ASHP.

We are on Cosy with a heat pump, battery and solar. In winter our battery is just about large enough that we can recharge during the 3 x Cosy cheap rate periods and just about last 6h until the next cheap rate period, so we only ever import at the Cosy cheap rate. We therefore know exactly what our import per kWh this winter will cost us.

With Agile, you lose that certainty. All you can do is try it and if it's costing you more per kWh than the Cosy cheap rate (assuming your battery is big enough to only import at Cosy cheap rate) then you can instantly switch to Cosy.

The issue I see with Agile is that when prices are expensive, there are long periods of expensive prices. It's not just the 4-7pm peak, but often the prices stay high all evening. Ultimately it will come down to how big your battery is compared to your heat pump usage in the 3 coldest months of winter.
