Slightly disappointing if anything.  Was hoping for a bit lower with that -4p slot giving false hope.

Still, will save a few quid by running the heating overnight should burn through a good 50+ kwh and save a bit that would have gone on gas.

For some reason my export is still on Flux (I did chase a couple of times, but obviously it's not in my interest), so if I get myself organised peak rate tomorrow could be very lucrative. TBH, charging and discharging the battery several times tomorrow seems sensible. I need to work out what else I can usefully do that involves using electricity - other than supplementing the oil central heating with the electric heating I have, doing whatever bits of laundry need doing, getting the ironing done (I'm clearly out of excuses now!), and planning a bit of cooking. Descaling the kettle and coffee maker, and running a WM cleaning cycle maybe.

I have to say, this is a lot less effort than trying to squeeze all the extra usage into an hour!
  • It's going to be warm in our home tomorrow  :D
  • I'm trying very hard to not use any more than the credit balance I've built up since May over the winter and so gas heating only on to 12 degrees a few hours a day if at all - which heats the living room to nearer 16 in the middle of the day. But when electricity is negatively priced we'll be toasty via two fan heaters and the oven. And there'll be baked potatoes to reheat all week.

Our fan heater is on the missing list. Has disappeared from OH's office. Very odd. We've obviously put it somewhere safe when we had to drag the contents of the room out to have the radiator replaced in the summer, but goodness knows where that is.

  • WM already loaded with bedding, DW was on last night but as I also used the slow cooker last night the big crockpot from that will go through tonight - it’s big enough that it’s usually a pain to have it in the DW as it doesn’t leave enough bottom rack space for anything else - so it’s handy to have a good excuse to put it on again!

The kitchen and bathroom underfloor heating is going on, and I think OH is planning to stick the office heating on overnight too - also electric underfloor - as it’s useful to warm the room through where can. The fire is already lit this evening and I’ve turned the thermostat for the CH right down to be sure that won’t come on at all, hopefully tomorrow will be a cheap gas day!

I was less than pleased to find that the battery wasn’t charging at 1am and didn’t want to risk it not bothering through all the negative pricing, so switched the programming from Agile to dual rate and selected slots manually. This morning it was full, the HW tank was up to temperature, the house is warm without the heating kicking in from the towel rails, one oil-filled radiator downstairs and the heated airer upstairs, the wash done last night is dry on the airer, and another one has just been taken out and hung on the utility towel rail to dry. The battery is now discharging and the next couple of hours will involve some manual on/off of battery and electric heating while we switch between negative and positive pricing - after which I’ll continue as normal for the rest of the day, possibly partially discharging the battery towards the end of peak rate to make space to top up cheaply.

I do need to work out why the battery wasn’t charging last night - I may just leave it all tonight and see whether I wake up to a full or empty battery, but that’ll depend a bit on the Monday morning pricing as I generally don’t use much from the grid during the day.
  • 22kWh showing used for us overnight and we’ve woken to a toasty warm house thanks to kitchen and bathroom underfloor and the oil filled rad. Everything that could possibly need charging is charged, and MrEH even switched the shed light on (old style fluorescent tube) overnight too! 😂 Net gain of 25p so far - plus the gas not used of course - which we’re happy enough with. I’ll give some of the bedding a further half hour of drying shortly as it’s still slightly damp. Unsurprisingly though that’s waiting for 8am!
