Quick question - I have been playing about with a few numbers and currently it appears we could save on Agile even without much if any load shifting. As some may recall, were no strangers to load shifting anyway having spent 20 years on E7 prior to moving here, so I’ve got little doubt that we can improve on the “bare minimum” we’ve seen. My OH is currently a wee bit twitchy about the change - we’re currently on a fairly solid 15m fix, so I can understand his edginess. My question is - and I am sure this is findable somewhere on Octopus’ website but can’t see it currently - if we change to Agile and then decide it’s not for us, how soon can we jump back to the variable?
I can’t show you where but from personal experience switching to Agile is immediate the day you apply and so is leaving unless you ask for it to be later. I don’t have EV solar battery etc but with some load shifting away from 4pm - 7pm slots am averaging around 15pkwh so far this year.
I seem to remember you were good at taking advantage of Saving Sessions etc if so you will find Agile ideal when prices turn negative.

@EssexHebridean I cannot see any restrictions to moving back to standard, unless there's small print elsewhere.... (from T's and C's as at Aug 2024)

"2.3.4 The variable nature of Agile Octopus means any prediction of future costs will be inaccurate and historical data will not predict future performance. Agile Octopus is a smart import tariff that allows you to unlock the cheaper and greener benefits of using energy according to wholesale costs. Sometimes peaks may be higher, sometimes lower. You will always be able to switch to one of our fairly priced standard tariffs at any time."

and at 1.3 "You can always switch from a standard import tariff to a smart import tariff (provided you meet the eligibility criteria for that particular tariff), but if you switch away from a smart import tariff, you cannot switch back to a smart import tariff within 30 days."
  • ...but from personal experience switching to Agile is immediate the day you apply...
Yes, Octopus actually switch you from the start of the day you apply (assuming you already have a smart meter and are already with Octopus), so if you apply now they'll actually switch you from midnight last night! That time/date should be on your confirmation email.

It may take you longer to switch out of Agile. At one time they were advising Tracker customers that it might take up to 2 weeks, so I don't know if that might be the case for Agile too.

When I got cold feet last Nobember they took me off it straight away. Regreted it 2 days later and had to wait a month to get back on.

Octopus Watch app is predicting some negative rates over night tonight which will be handy.

Happy with that. My automations heat the thermal store and turn all the rads on when the price is below 1.5p. Should mean next to no gas used tomorrow.

65w charger? That's money saving to the extreme!

That said, we're going to put a wash on and tumble it before bed tonight and I'll put the oil radiators on timers too  :D
