I'll be interested to hear what you think of them @GaleSF63 !GaleSF63 said:
All this talk about Staffordshire/Derbyshire oatcakes - I was tempted and have just received a delivery from the company @p00hsticks named! Can't update on taste or quality yet; what I can say is that although they have a very short shelf life - 2 days (which is clear on the website) they can go in the freezer, and the packets of mix have a best before date of 29th Feb 2024.p00hsticks said:
No personal experience of this particular company (as yet - I'm tempted), but you can order either oatcakes or the mix to make them yourself online here and get them posted to you.LemonadeBudget said:Really struggling to find either Staffordshire or Derbyshire Oatcakes locally. Admittedly based in Greater Manchester though . . . ! But nowhere seems to stock them in recent months

I think there are also other Stoke-on-Trent oatcake shops that do mail order.
We moved away from Stoke a while back but still visit occasionally and take the opportunity to stock up while there.
As you say, they freeze well, and are a great standby as they quickly defrost.
Our favourite filling is bacon, mushrooms and cheese, but I've also tried them with stewed apple in the past, which was a nice change from the more usual savoury fillings. .1 -

Yep, I can't find dried marrowfat peas either, be it a small packet or a large bag, although I have found a tinned alternative that's not too bad. Other things I can't get on my online order are blocks of Britannia beef dripping in a greaseproof wrapper, Greens Lemon Meringue pie mix or Greens Carmelle dessert although I can get them if I go to the SM myself. Kind of defeats the point of having a delivery!joey-lou said:almost impossible to buy big bags of dried marrowfat peas in supermarkets. unless you go online & buy a catering pack you are stuck!

Aldi sell tinned marrowfat peas. Possibly worth a try? 🤔0

Would one of those "unpackaged" shops have dried beans so you could buy just as few or many as you want? Likely to be in the trendier parts of town where people can afford to be more environmentally friendly. (at least that's the way it looks to me!)

I had a go at making oatcakes today inspired by this thread. I'll admit I'd never even heard of them before, but thought they'd be a lovely addition to a Sunday brunch.
I used this recipe: https://greatbritishrecipes.com/derbyshire-oatcakes as written, aside from subbing blended oats for the oatbran, as I always have oats to hand. Dead easy - if you can make a pancake, you can make these.
Served with fried mushrooms and onions, with cheese - bacon for the omni, fried egg for the veggie. Definitely something I'll make again. Thanks for the inspiration!5
