Just noticed a recent post about difficulties tracking down evaporated milk. I must say we buy that a lot less nowadays, but which foods do you still love?

We’re going to go to the trouble today of making our own steak & kidney pudding. Not so easy to find ready-made ones nowadays. (The canteen in our local hospital used to do the most amazing ones but the canteen went and then so did the hospital).

would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

It’s funny that you say not so easy to find now when Google says they are readily available in the supermarkets?

I would think you may find getting hold of ox kidneys harder than picking a ready made one up in Sainsburys, Tesco etc

I cook from scratch so whatever I fancy, I make. Not had any trouble finding any ingredients whatsoever that I have noticed.

Maybe I just haven’t found S+K puds in the shops I go in. Certainly not Lidl 😊

Definitely quite hard to get hold of ox kidney. Fortunately have found it in the past on the butchery counter in one of the small independent grocers selling spices etc from the Indian sub-continent. It seems to freeze okay if there’s too much for one pudding.

Pies the same: steak & ale, steak & mushroom, but rarely S+K.

The notable exception re S+K pies is Morrisons on their deli counter, but you have to get there early to get them. Their ones are super delicious and often still warm.

Still get it at my local ASDA, although sometimes it is out of stock for weeks.
