@LemonadeBudget and @p00hsticks. First impressions on oatcakes- disappointing. I couldn't taste any oat flavour. They were thinner and more moist than I prefer and have had before though that can be dealt with. When I use the mix I'll add more oatmeal. On the other hand I also bought some fruit pikelets which were very nice, especially with cream!
@Mnoee - I should have done the same as you!

@HillStreetBlues - No, sadly they don't so they're not quite as "lemony" but I've got round that by adding a couple of drops of lemon essence.   :)

@maman - Thanks for the suggestion but there's no Aldi near me.  I'm using Hubbards (Sainsbury's basic, 33p per tin) and find them acceptable but I'd still rather have the dried ones, given the choice.

There probably is one of those "weigh it out yourself" shops in town but nowadays that's a rare trip for me - infrequent and unreliable bus service, plus I'm not a driver.

Almost any fruit juice without sweetener.  Why!?!?!?

And Sainsbury's is the only place to buy cherry airwaves gum.  Fortunately found it incorrectly priced at 60p at the local shop when I was buying up a lot.  Happy to make a small saving even if it means being tutted at by the cashier who had to rescan my entire shop due to not being able to correct the amount down from 70p which her till charged.

Do you mean squash? I've double checked and all the fruit juice I can see in sainsbury's is just fruit juice either from concentrate or not. Maybe watering that down to make a 'squash' type drink would suit, though a shorter shelf life and fridge necessary once the carton is opened.

No it's the stuff that's not in the cold section - in tetra packs or whatever.  I used to get cherry juice and cranberry but none of it seems to be made without sweetener now.  And event the cranberry juice in the cold section has sweetener!

I've managed to find squash made by Rock which does a lemon that is simply juice and sugar but now I'm wondering why I'm paying over the odds for that when I can do the same myself with lemon juice and a spoonful!

The addition of sweeteners may be caused by the sugar tax. I use French Click once or twice a month and there isn't the same problem there.

It is possible to find juices without sweeteners. Iceland 100% Juicy Pineapple Juice Never From Concentrate 1 litre is 3 for £5 at the moment. Just pineapple juice, nothing added. Could be diluted with mineral water for children.

Ah fair enough, I was thinking more orange apple etc, cranberry does need a lot of sugar to make it palletable. There's recipes online for cranberry juice (though they all seem to be in US cups) - seems easy enough, if you've ever made cranberry sauce at Christmas it looks pretty much the same, but sieved with water added!

Ah nice one!!! Never occurred to me to make my own!!! Silly me!

No worries about the US cups - I know without even looking that's about 225 ml.  AKA 8 fluid ounces.  How do I know?  I was born across the pond but on the better side of the border (so Canadian) and we went through the conversion from imperial to metric when I was still at school.

Interesting website too.  When I was looking at it something popped up for butter burgers.  Basically ground beef with finely chopped mushrooms added, made into patties and fried in butter.  And then the buns are toasted in the butter.  And when you put it together you put a big pat of butter on top of the burger patty before putting the top bun on.  So no excessive amount of cholesterol then!!!
