Your garden is great, so much space.

I doubt many people in this section have "big" pensions, we will make good use of what we do have!

Moving, I expect your right, going over to the pension board is a bit scary, all the talk about 'The Number' amounts to crazy money and I ended feelling rather inadequate!!
As for the garden, it is truly lovely, but a bit to big to manage, so lots of it is on the wild side, which is fine, its just the top bit nearer the house I would like to reclaim and makea bit more presentable!!

I agree the pension board can be scary.

Your garden looks fab. Wild gardens can be lovely. Mine is mostly stones but I will probably plant some things directly into them rather than create borders which need to be weeded.

Look at the over 50's board, there's a more realistic discussion for those of us with smaller retirement monies.

How about a big healing building, less garden to maintain 🤭

  • Morning @~FlowerPot~ if it makes you feel any better I have NO pension. I have £20k in an ISA which DP keeps trying to persuade me to use if we move to a bigger house...and I've firmly said no, it is the only money I have towards any sort of pension. Don't think he really understands, he's worked non stop for thirty years and has a very decent pension. Not sure it is decent enough for the two of us though....! I have always considered the roof over my head to be my nest egg and when the kids move out I always intended on downsizing so I could release equity and use that as a pension. Now that I'm no longer single though I am not sure what will happen....20k will not go far. And I am cut off from my dad's will as far as I know so no inheritance for me either.

Your garden is beautiful by the way! I need to get out into mine a bit more really, but it is so cold it puts me off
    MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. May 1st, £116, 123, June 1st, £115,536, New mortgage added for extension- £165,000 July 1st!

    Mortgage Overpayments - September-December, £152.46. Jan £103.27, Feb £115, March £91.50, April £100, May £200, June £200. July £200.
    Total- £1162.23
Goal to pay off 1% of current mortgage in one year. £1200. (96.83% there)

  • It is never too late to start some sort of pension. Even 50 or 100 pounds a month with tax relief could build something for you in addition to the state pension. How far away are you from retiring?

Gosh, you keep hold of that 20k!!. I think I would tie it up so it couldnt be used for things like moving esp if DP thinks of it as available!
I am fidning it quite scary to think ahead. like you my DH has worked and paid into his pension all his life, but he has admitted when we rejigged it all about a year ago that he hadnt really been on it enough and I dont think he has enough to support 2 of us. He is now actively increasing his input and agreed each payrise from now should go directly as pension payments.
I dont think about inheritence at all even though my mum is still with us, that money may well have to pay for care, so there are no expectations there!

Thank you the garden in beautiful and it is wonderful for calming my mind when stuff gets too much. Hopefully if it dries up a bit ill get out there this afternoon.

Yep the pension was started a year ago, (Im 51 so wont be reitring for at least 10 to 15 years), but I havent been putting in a set monthly amount it has been relient on my very small weekly amount that gets added to any healing work money that I receive and then I pop it across when it reaches a nice round number.
However I decided that this really wasnt good enough and actully I need to put in a regular amount AND do the above. Plus I decided to add all survey money to the pension now rather than the mortgage (DH was in full agreement which is good) And I tend to make at least £60 a month, so that will help.

When I set up the pension, I also set up a S&S ISA and have been adding bits to that. This is also a very long term saving pot, but it only has £1300 in it !

Well i think the universe has been listening I had a call regarding my healing work yesterday which might turn into somewthing and two more patients booked in for next week which is already very busy week. Which is good as this week I have only had 1 client all week. (Monday is my main day at the clinic and of course it was Easter!!!)
The new one that rang, didnt tell me where he got my number from, but I did pop some business cards into the pharmacy we use yesterday so it could be there or word of mouth, or my website. But that is simple a landing page with my phone number. Anyway, its an extra one so thats a bonus!!
