also, add to this my own electric bill, which is£50.00 - EDF want to raise it to £127.00...although I am on a fixed rate but they refuse to acknowledge this....and my useage is not high enough for the raise. I am successfully arguing with them, but theres that pressure now......so I pay 3x lots of energy bills, totalling £125.00 per week for a 1 bed flat, and if EDF put my bill up, i will pay just over £202. per week, just for gas and electricity Yes, I know, i live in a communal block but we all qualify on health grounds to live here. I am in receipt of UC and PIP.
A fixed tariff is no all you can eat, you are paying fixed unit rates, but if you use more electrcity you cost will go up.

Regarding the increases from Stonewater I would question the communal electrcity one with over £31 per week. What is the communal electrcity used for?

Heating seems a bit on the high side after the increse, but it was incredible cheap before the increase.

    i was thinking that.

going from £4 to £34 seems... a lot. even with the cost of electric increasing.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • When I moved in I reealised the smart meter is broken and EDF refuse to repair it, hence I have read my meter every week and kept a notebook......my useage has not increased since I moved in......I use 33 units per week. It is well within the useage I am paying for. EDF had no reason to increase my costs other than moneygrabbing....the electric, communal, are lighting in hallways and emergency lighting I assume, apparently Stone water refused to put sensors in as they couldn't afford it. Now the resident are paying dearly. The gas is communal and includes gas to flats for heating but our rads do not work and stonewater never repair them. This is a money spinner for them. Thats the long and short of it.

Re the EDF Gas and Electric

Can you give us the meter reads you gave EDF when you moved in in June and todays reads please. I assume that you are giving EDF reads every month .  Have a look at you last bill - what is the letter against the meter reads - is it A, C, E, S or our /your read.  What are the unit kWh charges / standing charges?

Can you confirm that you have received the 5 lots of £66/67 (one more to come). As you are on PIP I believe other credits have been made - (others will confirm)

If you have communal heating what do you use gas for ?

One other point, nothing to do with the energy part.

The rent increase on the letter is over 11%, but there is a cap for the rent increase for social housing of 7% in place for 2023/2024.

This has been even mentioned on their own homepage

OP have you thought of changing to payment on demand for electricity, rather than a monthly payment.
You will be sent a bill for your usage monthly which you pay on receipt.
Technically it is around 10% more expensive when not paying by DD, but if the DD is set at an inflated level it is debatable how much more expensive it actually is, in my opinion.

July 07.07.2022 was 18473 last thursday 19433, all read by me. one man knocked to read meter but was rude and I didn't let him in and had to complain, I got an apology. I was asked to supply meter readings by EDF but the computer refused to accept the readings as they were too low. I rang  and gave readings, but this now starts a conversation  in which they try to pressurise me in raises my dd. I haven't been asked again for another meter reading. Yes, i have the payments i was given but enough for 4 months......i never expected the raise to be this high. And Stonewater want me to be credit for 1 months rent, which is now £1,000 .....Stonewater are never happy. Money, money, money
