Sheltered housing and the energy discount. — MoneySavingExpert Forum
I'd say you are not alone, it seems to be having an impact on a lot of people.3 -
@Nebulous2 As I read this tamsin pays her elec direct to EDF and gets the £66/£67 plus the other payments .
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

As does the person I discuss in the other thread. They use BG for electric and get the £66/£67. However that is only for electric. They currently pay £30 per month for communal gas heating for the whole building. To date they do not have a new figure from 1st April - but have been told to expect it to quadruple, from £30 to £120. They have also been told to expect a substantial rise in the service charge.0 -
as nebulous has said. it looks like the op pays three different energy bills (gas, electric for the flat to edf and electric for the communal areas to the housing association).Robin9 said:@Nebulous2 As I read this tamsin pays her elec direct to EDF and gets the £66/£67 plus the other payments .
its the communal areas rise that seems ridiculous from £4 (which seems very low but maybe its just a couple of lights) to £34
if theres been no increase in USE of electricity in communal areas then thats a 750% increaseAlmost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
OP also says there’s 30 flats, so is that over a grand weekly for communal areas usage??ariarnia said:

It is hard to tell, but from what they have said it could include communal areas along the lines of seating and social areas, some of the sites Stonewater have also include communal laundry facilities etc. so it may or may not be unreasonable depending on the location.tim_p said:

it is unreasonable because of the hike. I don't care where it refers to AND...they have put it on all the increases on the charges we pay. My 1 bed flat will cost £1000 pounds per month with housing costs paid to approx £680. The rest I pay with my PIP..? no way, Jose. I would rather move, which is may be an option, looking into it with local council and CAB. Thanks for reply though.MattMattMattUK said:

yes, that what we worked it out to...£52,000 per year, for a run down building, boilers breaking down, rads not working and rads OFF THE WALL... all plumbed in and working, but leaning against the wall. DISGRACE.tim_p said:

ariarnia...correct, thank you.....communal gas and electric on price hike, plus our own electrics....they will rake in £52,000 per year from UC and Pension credit and disability, which is all we have to pay from. . Stonewater are a disgrace.ariarnia said:

if theres been no extra facilities (use) added then its hard to see how an increase of that size could be reasonable.MattMattMattUK said:

just had another look and the heating individual and heating communal have both also seen a similar jump so its not even that its electric heating in the hallways.
id think a polite email asking for a breakdown and explanation of the increase would be a good idea.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
