One other point, nothing to do with the energy part.

The rent increase on the letter is over 11%, but there is a cap for the rent increase for social housing of 7% in place for 2023/2024.

This has been even mentioned on their own homepage

    https://www.stonewater.org/news/press-releases/autumn-statement-2022/

@tamsin1c    Re the above from pochase - I suggest you write -  don't phone, don't email -  the Chief Exec Nicholas Harris
Thanks for this, I didn't realise. I am dyslexic with numbers so cannot do much more than I am with my finances.

When I moved in I reealised the smart meter is broken and EDF refuse to repair it, hence I have read my meter every week and kept a notebook......my useage has not increased since I moved in......I use 33 units per week. It is well within the useage I am paying for. EDF had no reason to increase my costs other than moneygrabbing....the electric, communal, are lighting in hallways and emergency lighting I assume, apparently Stone water refused to put sensors in as they couldn't afford it. Now the resident are paying dearly. The gas is communal and includes gas to flats for heating but our rads do not work and stonewater never repair them. This is a money spinner for them. Thats the long and short of it.
You are wasting your time with  Customer Service -  go to ComplaintResolution@edfenergy.com

By Smart Meter I presume you mean the In House Display Toy (IHD)  - the smart meter in is an outdoor meter box or communal cupboard.   Ignore that toy - disconnect it and put it at the back of a drawer

I am confused  - if the gas is communal and included in the charges you have listed then why are you paying EDF as well ?

33 kWh per week is fantastically low
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Thanks...the smart meter I have been told is smart is the meter on the wall, it is not unpluggable. 33 is low and I can't get it any lower.

OK, SAID BROKEN METER.  sorry, caps lock. just spent 3 hours on hold to local CAB but not got through. mind you, so have others here, we have been told to do a rent affordability test with CAB and then go back to local council as we will be considered 'technically' homeless. So a SRL, Housing Association has just added 30plus families to the housing list in this area. Hopefully, Stonewater won't have an income from this block, as we will have all moved. potential new tenants on pension credit/UC will fail the affordabilty test too.rability test too. Talking about shooting yourself in the foot.

OP have you thought of changing to payment on demand for electricity, rather than a monthly payment.
You will be sent a bill for your usage monthly which you pay on receipt.
Technically it is around 10% more expensive when not paying by DD, but if the DD is set at an inflated level it is debatable how much more expensive it actually is, in my opinion.
Telling the OP to choose to pay 10% more than necessary is definitely not good advice !
The OP may wish to consider paying by Variable Direct Debit, i.e. the exact amount used since the previous meter reading.  This avoids build up of an excessive credit balance although it does mean lower bills in summer but higher bills in winter.
  • Is the issue with the smart meter that it's just not sending readings to the supplier?

The OP has given readings of 18473kWh at 7/7/22, 19433kWh at 16/2/23 and 19452kWh today.  The OP did not move in until July.
