Just a note ... When I spoke to Ulster Bank about my application last week I was advised it might be better for me to contact NatWest as they control applications for accounts for the group (NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank) ...
    ... e-mail yourapplication@natwest.com .

I actually phoned and in addition to confirming what Ulster Bank said, answered my question.
I wish live chat had known this!  I was referred to branch as my application went missing and they wouldn't send me a copy to re-sign.  I would need to get a train, a ferry and a bus to visit an Ulster Bank!  I ended up making a 2nd application to try and get my £200.

... yes. I know some people have got the £200 and at least one person has a treble but I fear I won't be one.

There seem to be many steps along the way which can turn into mis-steps. I am at step 2, waiting for completed confirmation letter to get back to them but it may be the last because I misinterpreted the question online regarding already having a bank count. I answered Yes and then answered that I opened it in Oct 22. It was only after I'd sent the confirmation back which had 'bank account opened 1st October 2022' in the application details, that I realised they meant with Ulster Bank. It had been at the back of my mind, why would they want to know when I opened my FlexDirect (Nationwide)?

Apparently by the way, Ulster Bank Customer Service agents are obliged to advise that applicants may be asked to pop into their designated branch to provide more details. As I said to the agent, "it's a long way to Castlewellan, almost as far as to Tipperary".

  • Are you sure about that “any other account” question? I also interpreted it as with any bank and answered accordingly. Both to Ulster and to any other NatWest Group brand, ever.

Why would they ask if I have an account with them already? They could see that anyway. I suspect it’s to verify your identity via credit reporting – you say you have another account opened February 2010 and they’ll be able to cross-reference with your credit report proving you are who you say you are.

At least that’s how it works in my head.

I thought that question about when you opened an account was part of credit scoring, like they assign points to the answer.  I've got quite a few accounts so I just make up a date.  It's never stopped me getting a new bank account.

This is why they ask those questions.

    Thanks all for the advice.

Finally managed to activate. The issue was that the link in my email is for Ireland (https://www.ulsterbank.ie/) rather than UK (ulsterbank.co.uk). Don't know why it thinks I am in Ireland.

Thats good, glad you managed to get online banking sorted now.

  • Well, I'm another still waiting for my account details from Ulster. I applied nearly four weeks ago, got the form through, signed it and sent it back, then heard nothing whatsoever so I phoned them last week. Apparently they have my application and returned form and can see that I requested a switch, but it's still 'in their system for final checks', and I should receive some comms from them 'very soon'. I sense a further phone call to them in the week, which I might do on the four week anniversary of my online application. What a bizarre experience.

Hi, I ended up applying a 2nd time as they are rubbish, but that £200 will pay for my holiday. 2nd application now in pillar box.

Did anyone pit a cross in the box that states I have received the Financial Services Compensation Scheme information sheet, it's on the last page where the signature box is.
Didn't receive the information sheet, only a notice about overdrafts with the letter.
