Keeping afloat till I can get round to the debts!

So the latest spends are -two new rucksacks-both needed. A pair of pe trainers and another pair, possibly two to buy. The youngest two leave their PE kit in school all year round so I don't spend too much for the hour or two week they might wear them.
Still to go is school shoes x 3 which is booked for tomorrow, and the local uniform shop to buy tie and a branded cardigan each. Although I'm wondering whether to bother with anything other than the tie as the cardigans will be 17 each or thereabouts. I'll have to get them to try what we have/the plain cardigans I've bought and then decide.
Need the eldest to try his stuff but he is now a teenage troll in his room so won't be easy. He has grown a bit and I'm worried I'll have to fork out for a new blazer if it's half way up his arms . I'm not buying one if he still gets in it though as there is way more growth to come yet and they are just shy of forty quid. Oh and I need to order name stickers. I'll go do that now before I forget.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Stickers ordered. Should arrive next week sometime. After six weeks off you wouldn't think it would be so much hassle but it is. Youngest two move to shirts and a tie in final year of primary to get ready for highschool. Nice idea but it means buying new stuff. Thankfully I got all the none branded stuff at Sainsbury's and Asda before school even broke up. 😂Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Just had a good catch up
Not sure if you have a Deichman near you but I bought 2 x pairs of kickers for my 2, they are buy one get one half price and at that still came to £70 (mine are 9&14 and growing like NBA Allstars) but for £5 you can get a coating sprayed which is to stop scuffing, water etc, I was going to say no but got chatting on the counter and they will guarantee them for a year. You can then return for a replacement apparently even if it's a different style/size you go for? Just thought its worth a mention x

Good luck with the shoe shopping. I need to just get the non branded bits now so hopefully it won't be too painful!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

Here to report a small win. I put the money for the building work in a bank account with a decent rate of interest. Just seen we have been paid 18 pounds in interest. Whilst I know this time next month the month will start to filter out to pay for the work it does show how money makes money -if you have some to start with in the first place! One day in the future when I'm debt free I will again have accounts like that which earn interest!Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Eldest has gone up two sizes since I last bought him school shoes in June. He assured me that he won't get in trouble if he doesn't wear special astro shoes like school uniform policy says so I've just bought him shoes and trainers. I'll have a look on vinted but if no joy I'll only buy football boots and astro shoes if he gets in trouble for not having them.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Do not get me started on many schools uniform policies. When I was at school only grammar schools had a school uniform, secondary school pupils had to know who to laugh at. Actually back then they didn't & I had friends in both. An aside comment on the school uniform, my mother saw a summer dress from the designated supplier & said did they call that a gathered skirt. Then they brought in school uniforms for other (secondary) schools & it was a good idea because it stopped all the "we can afford logo stuff". Everything was fine for a few years. Then they brought in academies & they brought in the designer priced uniforms to make sure that their new students parents could afford to pay for everything they could possibly charge for.It just shows how much what was a really good idea can be hijacked2

Great result with the interest! Free money is always good.
Ouch to the shoe shopping. Good idea about the football boots. They give me the rage as here they are only worn a handful of times as mine aren't at all interested in football outside of PE.
@badmemory I agree about school uniform. I'm a supporter of it, but there shouldn't be any reason why supermarket uniform is not perfectly suitable, with maybe a branded school tie or a badge that can be sewn on to jumpers etc.
