Didn't go to the parade. Shame as I was looking forward to a bit of excitement. The two youngest said they still didn't feel well and the wind was 25 with gusts of 40-45 so we'd have struggled a bit anyway. The youngest has been sick again in the night but only once. Hopefully that was just a final clear out. No big plans for today. It's the only day I've got off this week so I think more cleaning and anti bac is the plan. I'm working from home tomorrow so at least there's no pressure on getting the kids up and out. Done some Tilly tallies and sorted out next year's worth of car insurance.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

And I've restarted the Savings/emergency fund. It has 52 pounds in it. I think I'll go with the tact of putting all the surplus in one place whilst paying minimums. Everything in my name is interest free for nine more months so I'll just save first and slide the money across when needed so I've got the flexibility. Need to build the funds up. All depends on work but once we hit June I'll ring my boss and ask her what's been said higher up in the chain and if I need to panic.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Moved my cashback and round up amounts from my chase account to make this month's c card payments and used seven pounds of Asda reward points to buy some socks for eldest. It's rained all day so haven't done much else!Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Quiet day today, I took kids to park after I'd finish work. Friday is payday so I'm limping it home till then. Sun's come back out which is nice. Just a shame kids are sat around watching TV whilst I'm working. DH is off and home with them tomorrow hoping he gets the chance to go out somewhere with them.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

New payday new budget. 230 has been swapped to chase account. This is for food, school dinners, petrol, weekly spends. The idea is I've over budgeted and then we aim to save the leftovers. We seem to spend so much on food though. Was chatting to Aldi cashier last night reminiscing when I could get a full trolley for the week £100.
Currently have £88 remaining, I still need petrol, some bits Aldi didn't have and a planned takeaway this week. Reset day is Friday.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Takeaway was good. £51 remaining. Need tea bags, dishwasher tablets and bread. Bloomer doesn't do a good packed lunch. Whoopsie. Only bread essential. Have given kids some pocket money. Want to do this more regularly if my contract is extended. No idea what a sensible amount is though. Ages are 10 and 13? Eldest has a bank account with a card
Youngest used to have a prepay card with hyper jar but they started to charge a fee so I cancelled it. I don't always have cash on me so pocket money is a bit of a faff. The kids do need to start having some practice at watching money though.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

I started giving little jwil pocket money when he turned 11 and could open a bank account. I only give him £10 a month at the moment, but share your uncertainty about what I 'should' give him! Little miss doesn't get pocket money yet as she's still with us when she's out and about so we just buy things if necessary. I refuse to pay a monthly amount for a card!
I cover his phone credit and everything else, so it's just for frivolous spends and savings. He usually saves something and then spends the rest on vbucks or similar. He doesn't seem to want/need any more than that at the moment."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Monzo it seems might give a free card. I went on mum's net and pocket money varies quite a bit but a few people say they follow the local foster carers guidance as to what to give. Seemed a fair idea. Came out at 7 and 8 pounds a week each -eek. Kids are 10 10 and 13. Not sure my budget can always run to that so might go £8 eldest and a fiver each for youngest two.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213
