Thankyou for the boost. I'll have a go on the jam doughnut that's great thankyou. I have a chase card and I've had cashback on that for the first twelve months of usage. Now I can still get cashback but only for certain things and only if I pay in X amount a month - that has been off the radar the last couple of months so I need a new money maker! . It was nice whilst it lasted though and I've had 10-15 a month cashback on the month's that I could use it. Jam doughnut sounds like a really good idea to try now especially as it will revolve around food shops which are unavoidable in our house 😂 if I can get signed up then that's potentially the surplus amount for the Christmas shop sorted. Thanks for the info.thepurplepixie said:Hi just wanted to say how well you are doing. Years ago I was like you now I'm retired with no mortgage or debt and kids all grown up and independent, it does get easier eventually.
I honestly think schools need a reality check about what they are expecting as it seems really unrealistic.
One easy way I e found to fund my Christmas food bill is jam doughnut. It's a site where you buy gift vouchers for shops like Sainsbury's or Asda as well as M&S. You only get 2 or 3% but it adds up. As a pair of pensioners I currently have £40 in my account so you would make much more. It is easy to use, I was a bit nervous at first but it is good, it also makes it easy to manage your shopping budget, I just top it up at the start of the month. Hope that might be a little helpJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

I've been pretty quiet on the forums but actually if I'd have posted more often and lurked more often I would have felt a bit more inspired wouldn't I. I'll make an effort to pop on more often, for my sanity if nothing else xJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

The local hospice is running a book sale so off to stock up. They did one a few months ago presumably as they were struggling to sell all their donated ones. It was a hit and loads of people turned up. I've Nowhere to put them but my idea is I buy a few and donate them back when I've read them to clear space ha ha. I'll let you know how I get on.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Hope you found some good books!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

It was a success. The two youngest came with me and filled my bag. I've got a handful but between us allwe have loads. Got a horrible histories box set which one is engrossed in as I type. I've about 8. I'd have bought way more but it was busy and hard to manoeuvre the kids round. And they filled my shopping bag for me quick enough 😂 17 books, the boxset, a map and a jigsaw for £20. (Map as I feel we are loosing basic survival skills due to tech). One day I may persuade the kids to learn what to do with it ha haJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

A big pile of books for £20 is an absolute bargain!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

It should definitely keep me going for a while. And lots of people there so hopefully the hospice will raise a bit too.
Was three paperbacks for a pound, or three hardback books for 1.50 with individual prices for rarer books or box sets. And a lot more children's books there this time. Was mainly adult stuff the first time they did it.
I much prefer a book to reading online. It's a shame they struggle to sell all their donations at a higher price but after seeing how many turned us for this compared to last time I do think they will do this again every few months now alongside the charity shop.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213
