I've noticed I'm spending an awful lot on school stuff these days! Luckily we haven't had to fund an ipad or laptop or anything.

School trip letters for youngest two. Trip to local castle. 11 pounds each as subsided by ptfa. Think I can cope with that. And letter to say it's picture day soon. V tempted to break the mould on that one this year and miss a year. Quite pricey by the time we have one and we get grandparents a copy each. They always set up the packages so you can't buy what you want without overbuying.
Shopping gonna be mammoth this week as well as the kids emptied the cupboards for harvest festival. Had a good talk about where the food goes and why and encouraged them to take what you want. Earlier this year I went a local community shop/food bank a few times when things were tight. So many items for 3.50. it defo saved our bacon at the time and even though the kids didn't know it is nice for the kids to learn how important it is to help out. School had assembly on it too so a good time to reinforce being kindJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Glad you've got some time off booked.
Thanks for the reminder about harvest, ours is next week."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
I'm hovering at just over 5k in my name. Two out of three of my remaining debts had already defaulted and the third was only small and is now down at about 150 so no point getting another default for that. E fund has gone low again but I am getting a pay rise of about 60 a month and some back pay of approx 300 pounds which I will use the cover any Xmas shortfall. After that the plan is to continue to have an affordable budget pay v small amounts to the two defaulted debts and just get rid of the other. Then it will be save save save/live a little. It's not confirmed but my fixed term is hopefully being extended to June so I'm trying to get in a good as state as I can by then. Dh still spending and talking about getting credit for more things but has also asked to see the finances and the bills not just the spreadsheet. I just hope it's to care not to excuse himself to give less money to the pot to treat himselfJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Sounds like a good plan. Hope you get the contract extension, and hope DH gets onboard!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

Still no news on my contract. I'm risking it for a biscuit as they say. Worse thing than can happen is that i claim the dole or whatever it's called then sign up to agency/find more work. I've decided not to worry(much) as the date it ends is the end date of my old colleagues consultation so it would have made no difference anyway in a strange way. Boss seems to think it will extend to June but sys they are last minute.com at making any actual decisions. Same as anywhere reallyJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

So DH got all interested in finances all of a sudden. I was pleased like yes finally we can look at this together and he can see the big picture. His wages get paid into a joint account and anything over a certain amount goes back to him. 100 a week on a flat wage and any more than that on overtime. We've done that a while and it seemed to work but he's recently saying he feels I'm taking all his money. I'm using it for all the bills kids costs etc etc and reducing both our debts by the way. I have always wanted us both to do the money together, anyway I digress. Yesterday he said he's been looking at flats he's said that before (other issues going on) only for last night him to say I've misunderstood and that the flats he was looking at are for me and he will pay a deposit and he thinks I should move out. I'm hurt by this and also feel it's a low blow. For context we are in a house with a 500 pounds a month mortgage with 60 plus grand of equity, local rents are about 1200 pcm for a three bed and most importantly we have children which he says will stay here and I can have a flat. I'm a bit lost now as to how to feel and what to do. But life goes on theres a week's worth of washing and the shopping to put away so I'll guess I'll start there.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Why does he get to keep the house and kids ? Who made him judge and jury ? If he wants out then he needs to move out. (And he can take ‘his’ debt with him)
