    Congratulations on the offer!

  • So some changes. DH has sorted out his paperwork for working so is back in work as normal. Also we have changed to putting all money together. We tried this years ago but he couldn't cope with only having small amount of spends and it failed. I suspect we will have similar problems but we have more available in the pot so it won't be as tight to manage on as last time. He drinks however (as do I) but he drinks regularly as opposed to my treat at a weekend. On overtime weeks more money will be added. If he can cope with living off a budget then our finances should smooth out. All the d debits will be swapped to joint account so we shouldn't have the can you sub me for this that and the other conversation every week. Wish us luck.
First step is 1000 e fund. Am aiming for end of November/end of December. I'm mainly going to do this via 100 a month to e fund and using the annual bills money and extras that we can spare to start us off. Next annual bill is due Jan. We are trying to be frugal and whilst the weather is bad we are less likely to go out.  There's now 520 in the e fund pot as I've moved this month's money across at payday. Hopefully we can keep it in the pot.
After e fund then I'd like to save a 500 car fund then snowball/avalanche the debts depending on which works out best for each one interest/motivation wise! All debts are now interest free for next six months...

  • Car fund is to cover mot/services. I've budgeted money to put aside to this pot but eventually would like to have a pot that sits at 500 pref 1000 that isn't used for the regular maintenance but is there as a oh no what happens if the car blows up fund.

I need a 'if car blows up fund' too.  I think after bathroom is done this will be my next task.  Good luck sharing a bank account with DG.  I was never brave enough to try.  I think we would have been homeless by now.  Glad DH is back at work and wasn't off for too long.

  • He's not got a card for the joint one, well he has but he never finished the sign up process for online banking so he won't know all the details. Our Petrol and spends are going to our own account and everything else will be in joint. I'm still gonna shop via the chase card so I can get the cashback though

  • I do explain the finances to him btw. Realise my last post sounded like I had all the control. But it's not his forte so I get left dealing with it all...

Some people just aren't money people.  I think if XH had understood the cost of things more it would have made our lives a little easier.  As I am good with finances he just left me to it even if he moaned about it all of the time.  I am sure you will get it sorted and make it work :)

Good luck with the new plan.  I sort all the finances here too.

  • Another letter from primary school. School trip to panto (first time since before COVID so we have had a few years off 😂) 16 pounds each. These letters just aren't stopping....
