I'm in the same boat as @Milarky - have existing TSB logon details and a donor account with two newly set up DDs.

So, is it possible to register for a spend and save current account keeping my existing TSB login details, or do I have to register again? Know they worked, as I logged in last night !

Could I keep logon if I downloaded the app and appled via there with existing details?
TSB have a crazy system where when you apply for an account, even if you're logged in, they log you out and assign you a new user id. They tell you that you'll get the security code to set up the new id in a few days and also tell you that if you have an existing login the new one will be merged with the old one soon.

And that is exactly what happens - they give you the new id, send the new id security stuff but, in my case a week or two ago, by the time the new login codes arrived the new account was already visible on my old login.

So no need to worry about new logins, or trying to keep the old, they will give you a new one, but they will merge it with the existing one. So you can then ignore the new one, which i assume becomes invalid once its merged..

Why they have such a ridiculous system is anyone's guess but there's no need to worry  about it as it does all work out in the end!
Just came off the phone querying this and call centre staff mentioned that the merge takes 9 working days.  xx

So this doesn't work if converting a standard TSB account into a Spend & Save?

If so when opening a new Spend & Save via a cashback site, do I need to login when I get to the TSB site?

Yes, you need to open a new account.

No, because when you try to open a new account it will log you out, so it is pointless logging in.

Putting my experience on here given there have been some technical difficulties mentioned previously. Never had a login or account with TSB previously. Using clean/fresh browsers each time. Also, during the application process there is an option to proceed online or via the app - I chose the first route for reason of the tracking cookies.
First attempt I used Firefox (on Ubuntu) got as far as pressing submit and the "There's a problem..." page appeared (Error code EV004 I think, bit annoying how number 0 in their font looks like a letter O). Gave them a call and they said I needed to make a phone appointment. I wasn't going to do that so said I'd give it another go and they suggested using Chrome or Edge. I assume given the comments on here that has probably done a hard search (I've not checked), but assume they cannot retrieve the application and it's lost (probably for the best).
Second successful attempt. Used my Android phone via the Topcashback App, launched the page in Chrome (it specifically says using the TSB app for applying will not track). Went through everything again and it was successful and the transaction tracked at 20.00 (Spend & Save Account). Then submitted a Highest Cashback Guarantee to TCB for the 30.00 Quidco offer which has been approved (like previous posters my overall experience is TCB tend to be more reliable).
Straight after the application I submitted the pdf form for switching and have had that acknowledged by SMS. Bit miffed I got sent a copy of that pdf which appears to be unencrypted to my email with my sort code and account number in plain sight.
Topcashback T&Cs state paperless must be turned on within 90 days and the qualification regime for that side of things looks slightly different.

When carrying out the switch, will I need a debit card number for the donor account?

I will need to order a debit card, if so.
  • When you've opened the account, how long are people waiting for the pin? Sister opened hers a while ago and received her card but no pin (she's just requested a reminder incase lost in post).

I received mine within a few days but my Wife is still waiting about a week and a half now

The pdf form asked for it (last 5 digits), but I'm not sure if it's compulsory.

...I take it TSB don't allow it to be viewed in the app (I haven't got anything yet apart from a text confirmation that they've got my switch instructions). I haven't registered for the app yet as I've not received the code in the post.

Thanks for reminding me about TCB Highest Cashback Guarantee.  We've now both submitted our claims as well.
How long did it take TCB to come back and confirm the higher amount?
