Soontobeoap said:Craft group are getting really creative and coming up with ideas for Christmas fair. I have had a lot of fun making these tree decorations out of curtain rings and tinsel wool from charity shops. I bought the mdf ginger bread men to put hats and scarves on but when they arrived they were a bit smaller than I expected. 😂. They look cute on these though. Photo doesnt do them justice. Have sent off for some bigger (Hopefully) gingerbread men for making individual decs with them. £5.00 spent.2023 Frugal Living Challenge

emsi_b said:@kiss_me_now9 i started off with waves and wild patterns (was called made by jack's mum then). They now have a course, but if you want to dip your toe in before buying the course, their facebook group has free patterns and instructions to download. I use the leggings pattern a lot- the loose fit option is good for PJ bottoms. They also have a vest pattern too. I think the instructions are really clear- have a look and see
I picked up a pattern for a romper/overalls (baby size) at the charity shop today and I want to make them for my son but 1) I have no idea what fabric I should get and 2) I'm scared to mess it up XD£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January3 -
Kmn, just a few suggestions-
Have a look at the label on your boys clothes and see what material they are made from and see if you can get similar content and weight of fabric.
Before you make the pattern out of new material make at least 1 in material you're not so fussed about- an old sheet or pillowcase or downie cover. Check if there's anything cheap in a charity shop that they think they won't sell on the shop floor to someone wanting it for its intended use. Or ask neighbours , family or friends if they have any old material. Theres 3 reasons- 1 you practice following the pattern, 2 you practice cutting material and sewing it on your machine and 3 you see if you like the end product or if it needs to be longer/shorter/wider etc
Good luck and don't worry about getting it a wee bit wrong- the only person that never made a mistake is the person who never made anything

RavenRover - I got my pattern from here - did a workshop with her.

Loving all the makes.
@Florenceem The dog stockings are very cute
I've been repurposing Canvases this week from the wedding. Moved onto a new project of renovating a static caravan so painting some canvas to be Star Wars scenes for a 'Man Cave' and some I've reused an old calender to make 'movie room' posters!7 -

I have just stumbled across this thread and still have much reading to do but loving seeing your projects and how encouraging you are to each other 😊 I will join in when I catch up! 😂
I wondered if I could please ask for some advice about hand washing of a 100% wool, hand knit project. I have made a lap blanket for my dad which is quite geometric in texture (just through simple purl / knit but quite effective) and I am worried that when I wash it, it will loose its ‘crispness’ as I have had happen on other projects. Does anyone have any advice on how to avoid this? Also, what do you use to wash wool? I used to use Dr3ft but haven’t seen it for years now … 🤔
Any ideas would be much appreciated 😊
