Just arrived home from a lovely couple of days away in Millie Motorhome. Nowhere exotic. We pass a big city every time we go south on the motorway and neither of us have actually visited the city, other than a chocolate place when the children were younger or to visit a big exhibition centre. So this weekend was the weekend. We stayed at a boatyard on the canal. We left the van there all weekend and used the buses which were every few minutes to travel around. Lovely time was had by all….it was an eye opener seeing some of the beautiful well off places around the corner from derelict buildings and run down areas….we saw more on the bus going through estates than we would have done otherwise. Dh used his bus pass but I had to pay 😡 it was only £4.20 for a day ticket though. We visited the little town around the chocolate factory and had a guided tour up to see The Carillon. I’d never heard of a carillon but this one had over 40 bells of assorted sizes which were played by a piano style instrument with wooden pegs instead of keys. It was amazing and the instrumentalist gave a great rendition of various Carpenter songs. The only down side was a steep spiral staircase…..I nearly didn’t make it but decided turning round to go down was trickier than continuing up. I won’t be going up ever again though….once was more than enough thank you very much 😉😳
We drove home the scenic route… we didn’t touch the motorway at all. It was a lovely run. it took about an hour longer on a good run and there are often queues on that section.
One expense I could have done without though was having to buy a couple of new towels as I forgot to pack them and it was a tad chilly to drip dry £22 for 2 bath big towels in Primani - could have been worse, and I needed some new ones.
Next trip is in 6 weeks unless we decide an impromptu trip again.
Tomorrow I’m going to visit the gks as they’ve been staying with friends in the next county to me and are having a few days in an air bnb. It’ll be nice travelling an hour instead of nearly 6 to see them.

Sounds like a nice trip away.

It's a couple of weeks before we are next out in Milo. But next week we are at a friend's house planning our big trip later in the year to France.

Makes the most of seeing the GK's while they are so close. Hope you have a lovely day.

You are not the only one who has forgotten to pack towels 🙈
  • I had to look up Carillon. My nana was a big fan of that chocolate name 😁 It sounds like you had a wonderful time 🌟

SA - other than walking up the steps it wasn’t very active at all. Dh went a ride on his bike along the canal in the morning whilst I had breakfast in bed 👍😀 and a lazy get up. We spent a lot of time sitting on buses and walking from cafe to pub to pub in the city itself. We had tea in Spoons on Friday and Saturday ….thought Dh was going to keel over in shock when he saw the prices in ordinary cafes in big shopping centre 😂😂 I’d literally just finished eating in spoons on Friday when the fire alarm went off and everyone had to leave the premises. Dh had to leave his pint….it was too cold to hang around to see if we could go back in so we found a different pub to sit in.
We had thought of going on the chocolate tour as I’m also a big fan but somebody was telling us it was very child orientated so we just went round the town instead…..and saved some cash and calories - not a morsel of chocolate passed my lips 😇
I did have a Tim Horton breakfast wrap this morning on our way back and we had croissants from Lidl which was a 2 minute walk from where we were staying - other than that I have been far healthier than usual when I’m in the van. Chicken salad last night 😇😇 get me 😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve  just made an almond and orange gf cake to take tomorrow….👍 it’s gks favourite- not sure they’re related to me at all as they don’t like chocolate cake 😂😂 and I’ve just made a leek risotto using the last of my turkey and gammon chunks from Christmas also finished the turkey stock….twas very tasty….there’s just a small slice of Christmas cake left which Dh can have and that’s the Christmas food except chocolate all used up. We had the last of the Christmas pies I’d made from left overs last week - I was sorry to see it go. Roll on next Christmas. That said ds has a post Christmas yellow sticker turkey in his freezer so we’ll be helping him demolish that 👍
