The gym nearest to me is council run and doesn't have anything as posh as a cafe/coffee shop and there aren't any coffee shops or even shops close by. However work is starting on a major revamp this year so by the time I've retired it may well be completed.enthusiasticsaver said:
I can understand the at home classes when you are working but I found when I retired I wanted to get out of the house and particularly for you with a very needy and clingy spouse you may find it better to go to a gym. I love mine and am down there probably around 5 times a week as it is a social outlet and I often go for coffees/lunch after classes or a trip up the gym or swim/spa.Sun_Addict said:We do have a gym nearby that I belonged to for years pre Covid. To be honest I prefer the live at home classes now but I haven’t ruled out going back once I’ve retired.
The thing is that Mr SA will insist on escorting me to and from this gym. This is what he did when I went before and if it gets a coffee shop in the future he'll be wanting to meet me in there. So it won't be the source of escape people think it will be. He used to enjoy swimming and has made several attempts to go back but he not only needs help getting changed and getting in and out of the pool, the part of his brain that's damaged has 'forgotten' how to swim so he just sinks. If he could swim he'd be accompanying me, going for a swim then meeting me afterwards and he may well suggest this is what we do.
Probably the best bet would be to find a gym further afield but that would involve public transport there and back.

Morning all, happy hump day 🙂
WFH today.
The snow has completely cleared thank goodness but more is forecast with the latest storm on its way. The sky is looking a tad menacing from my office window!
Mr M delivery arrived at 6am. It was the smallest order I've had for some time and barely over the minimum spend. There are quite a few things I need from Lid! as they're cheaper in there and I may well spend £40 to get £5 off after all - this is providing the store I go to actually has the things I need in stock, it doesn't always.
Mid-week finance check done and cc balance paid off. An oddment of £5.13 has gone to the Christmas pot.
Today's exercise is a live yoga class (already done), dog walking shortly, a short strength session at lunchtime, day 7 of the yoga challenge and live Zumba at 6pm.
Mr SA hasn't been able to get out with the dog for the past two days although as the dog is almost 14 she's not that bothered about going out in the wet and cold.
For tonight's dinner I'm making a veggie cottage pie using up a tub of lentil mix from freezer stocks that seems to have been there for ages. I'm going to make the mash from swede and carrot to use up fridge stocks.
DD is at work so I plan to give the kitchen a good clean while she's not constantly in and out of it.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7 -
On the subject of gyms Are there any " women only" gyms in your area? Or even groups for different things thar are women only, that Mr SA couldn't join you.
In our area we have a weekly walking group, which goes through a wooded common, totally unsuitable for mobility scooters. Do you have anything like that?Making the debt go down and savings go up

A women only gym wouldn't make any difference to him escorting me there and/or meeting me afterwards. There are walking groups but the walks tend to be in places where you need a car to get there first before you do the walking.Makingabobor2 said:On the subject of gyms Are there any " women only" gyms in your area? I know this sounds like I'm making excuses for everything but I'm being realistic.
I have a few ideas of things to do that he wouldn't be interested in such as U3A and proper Spanish lessons. I'll still have regular meet ups with friends too, some who have already retired and a few who will be retiring soon.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6 -
The annual travel insurance renewal quote has come through at cheaper than last year's price so I've renewed with them.
I had to call the vet to book in the young cat's annual health check and at the same time asked if I could order a repeat prescription for the dog's medication as she only has a few tablets left. Unfortunately they need to see her for a medication review so that's booked in for tomorrow morning. As luck would have it I need to pick up the older cat's flea/worming treatment from a different vets tomorrow morning so at least I can get everything sorted in one go as we need to pass that vets to get to the other one.
While we're down that way I can pop in BnM for a couple of storage boxes that I need before Saturday which will save me going down there on the bus Saturday morning.
All this is dependent on the weather though and the forecast isn't great for tomorrow 😐I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4 -
