Six years since me and OH retired and he still wants to go everywhere I go. It’s like he sits and waits for me to come up with an idea of where or what to do and he jumps onboard. I’ve recently joined a health club to go swimming thankfully that doesn’t appeal to him.:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.001

Becoming MF is a great achievement. Well done.
You love exercise so wondering if there are any nice gyms nearby?
My last one was quite social with an area to relax, read and have coffee? If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Maybe a women-only one so Mr SA doesn't get any ideas! I met lots of really nice people in the gym when I went regularly, both in the gym itself and classes. Some of them have remained friends long after we've all moved out of the area.doingitanyway said:Becoming MF is a great achievement. Well done.

Congrats on getting rid of the mortgage.3 -
We do have a gym nearby that I belonged to for years pre Covid. To be honest I prefer the live at home classes now but I haven’t ruled out going back once I’ve retired.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

Once I decided on my retirement day ( 6 months away ) I counted the days and put the same number of pebbles on the garden table. Each day when I came home from work I took one pebble and threw it on the drive (same pebbles). It was great watching them disappear. Last one to go made me cry and laugh at the same time !amber03 said:Agree totally on deciding on a retirement day, I did this before I retired. I was dithering then decided on a date at the beginning of the following June and notified my boss and HR. I knew at a push I could withdraw my notice but once it was made it made it easier to go ahead with that date. I gave 6 months notice so by time June came I was so ready for it.
Glad you haven’t got any worse health wise and hope it continues, especially as it’s going to get even colder.
Happy new year and let’s hope 2026 is a good one for everyone.8 -
No one could argue you don't have enough fitness without using a gym. I am thinking post retirement, of a place to escape to that Mr SA won't want to follow...Sun_Addict said:We do have a gym nearby that I belonged to for years pre Covid. Yes that is one of my considerations along with joining U3A.doingitanyway said:

Afternoon all, happy Monday.
Back to working in the office today for a few hours, the heating system was down so it was a tad chilly in there. WFH this afternoon.
Free coffee picked up and enjoyed at my desk.
We had some snow overnight so I had planned to catch the bus but it seemed ok underfoot as the snow was still quite soft and not walked on. Different story on the way home though as the sun had melted the snow in places then the water had frozen so it was worse on the way back. Mr SA has been unable to get out on his scooter today. It will depend on what the pavements are like tomorrow whether I make it into the office as, although I could catch the bus, it's a decent walk from the bus stop to the office and the paving slabs in the city centre are treacherous when it thaws.
The young cat was shocked by the snow. At first she wouldn't go and it might her have a bushy tail. Then she was batting it gingerly with her paw then started eating it. Finally she had a mad half hour running about in it 🤣 I can't remember if she's seen snow before, she's 4 but it doesn't snow that often here so she might not have.
I stopped off at Lid! on the way home but could only manage a few things without Mr SA being there with his scooter so I just got essentials. They've sent me a £5 off £40 spend but I don't think I'll spend that amount in one go without very careful planning. I certainly can't manage to carry it back on my own. The discount doesn't include alcohol so it's not as if I could pick up a couple of bottles with the shopping to boost it.
The new 4 week budget period starts today. There was an underspend of £156.97 across the budget pots. £16.97 has gone to the Christmas pot, £40 to Mr SA's personal spends pot, £70 to the house/garden pot and £30 to the entertainments pot. The food/alcohol pots had to be topped up from the stock up pot due to stocking up when the good offers were on. However, this is the purpose of the pot. There was £20 remaining so this has been returned. Hoping for a decent underspend in those pots this month so should be able to replenish it further.
Fed the regular savers pots so that's all done. Just waiting for YBS to release their Christmas 2026 saver, the money is there waiting.
Checked cc balance but it was less than £10 so will wait until the midweek finance check when the pending items have cleared to pay off.
Today's exercise has been walking to/from work. Doing a short strength training session and the 10 mins yoga challenge later.
Tonight's dinner is leftover yellow split pea curry.
DS is going to help us with the loft on Saturday, hopefully the skip will still be there. Currently got 11 boxes of decorations in our bedroom waiting to go up, 3 of which are Halloween decorations. It sounds like a lot but they are spread across small boxes so they aren't heavy. I need to pick up a couple of boxes so the vinyl can go back up. I've ordered a rechargeable work light so we can see what we're doing. We attempted to put a few things up there yesterday but it wasn't working out with just a torch. There's electricity up there but it needs someone to actually get in the loft and plug it in which I don't fancy and Mr SA obviously can't.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8 -
The snow looked so lovely when I opened our bedroom curtains this morning, but I was glad I no longer have to drive to work in it. A daily 52-mile round trip commute for Mr F, but he pinged me to say that the roads to the north of our county had been well-gritted overnight so were a lot clearer than he'd anticipated. Ash has been out in the snow several times today - he does like hot temperatures & spends much of the colder months dangling himself over the radiator. Even Soot went out first thing!
