Morning all, happy Friday eve 😊
WFH again today. My usual leisurely start to the day reading with a coffee although cut short by the Mr M delivery arriving just after 6, nothing missing or subbed.
Today's exercise plan is dog walking later this morning, strength training at lunchtime and Zumba tonight.
Unfortunately the snails are back eating my courgettes, evicted 4 last night and 2 this morning. They are really munching their way through them it's such a shame. I didn't have this problem last year. I've only managed to pick 2 small ones so far this year and there were loads initially before the slimy 🤬 discovered them.
I think I might have the leftover No-Sakka for tonight's dinner. It was delicious and almost like a lasagne without the pasta. Last night I sat and made a meal plan for the next few days, all new recipes and using ingredients I already have in stock apart from a couple of fresh veg items.
The replacement of the fence by the neighbour is still a work in progress. I didn't realise he's making the panels from scratch. He can only do a bit a day as he's working. It's only a small-ish stretch from the patio to the pond (about 50ft) fortunately not the whole length of the garden. Mr SA's idea of 'helping' is to sit in a chair talking to him, no wonder he's not progressing much! It's keeping Mr SA entertained which is a good thing.
The hospital have asked for a further blood test from Mr SA for the IBD diagnosis.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5 -
My neighbours are doing something similar - not making panels from scratch but customising them. And according to his wife, he keeps getting them wrong (he has dementia, but refused to let his wife get someone in to do the whole thing), so it’s taking ages. They also don’t tell me when they’re doing it, or keep their dog in, so the dogs are ending up in the wrong gardens and the cats aren’t best pleased! TBH I’m also not thrilled that they’re mostly doing it at weekends (they’re retired) as it means I can’t enjoy the garden on my days off as there’s no privacy. But it’ll be nice when it’s done.3

I've only recently begun to get up early and enjoy the time between 5 and about 6.30...it really is a magic time of the day ...really annoying that the snails are getting your courgettes before you!If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

The fence is making progress and looks really good so far. Because our back gardens are so exposed to the elements and high up the wind damages normal fencing so the neighbour has built them horizontally which has made them a lot stronger. An added bonus is he’s trimmed back loads of overgrown bushes and put them in his skip so we don’t have to trouble our garden waste bin which is already full 2 days after being emptied.Mr SA has been for his blood test. Hopefully another step closer to some sort of treatment.Have bought the first Christmas type thing in the shape of a candle advent calendar on offer at a good price. I bought this particular calendar last year, it was brilliant and I said I’d buy it again, the candles lasted ages and the fragrance was strong enough without being overpowering. I went via TCB to get a little extra bonus from it.Thank goodness it’s Friday tomorrow 🥳I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6

Can you lay down a row of salt around the edges of the planters away from the actual plants that might deter the slugs? Can't get salt on the actual plants or it might kill them, but it will dissolve the slugs.2

Happy Friday 🥳
Worked in the office today and had my usual early finish.Walking into work in sandals and got a stone in one of them. Flipped it off to get rid then put it back on and somehow stubbed my toe putting it back on. It’s been hurting a lot ever since and is now black and blue 😞 I was hobbling about at work and was concerned how I’d make it back home. Fortunately it seemed to ease when I was doing serious walking rather than just from A to B. I don’t think it’s broken.Stopped off at Lid! on the way home for a few bits. Picked up some orange sticker half price chicken portions for Mr SA that are now in the freezer. Will do him for a few weeks. No further progress on the fence as the neighbour is on nights. He plans to finish this stretch this weekend, weather permitting.Managed an hour in my hanging chair reading. No further sightings of snails on the courgettes so hopefully they can now grow undisturbed.Today’s exercise has been walking (of hobbling 🤣) to/from work.Tonight’s dinner has been a new recipe Baked Piri Piri Haddock from the WW app. Very nice would make it again.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
I adore your garden pictures. We have a lot of different butterflies this year too. I think coffee grounds are supposed to keep beasties away? I could be wrong though as it’s just survival of the fittest in my garden! The snails main predator seems to be me here as I keep standing on them in the dark when I’m out with the puppy.
