Good idea to do more strength training. That is something I am trying to concentrate on now as well. We lose so much muscle mass as we age and I think our parents generation didn't always understand this, and then wondered why they couldn't get up off the loo, or carry the shopping, or walk without legs giving way. I think if we lead an active life the steps should take care of themselves but strength training is all important. What size weights do you lift so far? I am trying to increase mine.

I am also predicting the need for a new man-bag to keep all those new purchases in!
Re muscle-strength as we age....I heard a radio programme a couple of years ago, it may have been one of Michael Moseley's R4 ones, I can't remember. Anyway, the bit that sticks in my mind is when they were discussing being able to get up out of a chair/sofa without using one's arms. Apparently if we can't do that in our 50s, we need to get practising because these are the same muscles which will ensure we can get off the loo unaided in our 90s. That really put it in context for me & although I loathe exercise & am far too heavy, I am pleased to say that I can get up off the sofa without using my arms to push myself up & I make sure I keep doing it!

I'm having a moment picturing Mr SA in his white clogs and orange sunglasses!😳 Also I wouldn't have thought backless shoes are ideal what with his periodic falls but I know you can't tell him anything SA......
I must say I've really felt so much better since I've been going to the gym regularly. I know my recent weight loss has a lot to do with it too but standing up from sitting has improved enormously. It's right what they say - you use it or you lose it.....Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Thanks to Foxgloves for the useful tip and I can confirm that I immediately stood up and sat down 3 times. Told MrBC and he did the same. There's also a conscious effort to not make that sighing/exhaling sound when standing up, sitting down, putting on shoes etc.I predict MrSA will need a new necklace soon.4

Now there’s a challenge 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Funnily enough I can get up from the floor without using my arms/hands, but only if I'm holding (my very light!) weights. It must be to do with having a different centre of gravity..2

I have 3kg dumbells & a 4kg kettle bell, but thinking of trying heavier & maybe use alternate times till I get used to it.
I can't do that cross leg thing from the floor, but can get up without hands by going onto 1 knee.
I do " sit to stand" from a chair 20 times every morning & also sometimes do it from a low ottoman.
Also squats every day are good.Making the debt go down and savings go up

Morning all, middle of the week already.
WFH today and tomorrow.
The Mr M shopping has been delivered and all packed away by 6.30. It didn't fall off the van this week 😆
Already done a live yoga class so I feel all stretched out now.
It's Mr SA's appointment about possible Coeliac this morning so will be going with him to make sure they don't try to fob him off like they have before. If the test comes back negative I don't want it to be a case of that's it just put up with it. It's not normal to have an upset tummy every day and for food not to be digesting.
I'm starting a 30 day abs/core challenge today. This is a YT one. I've got a planner where you press on the day and it takes you straight to the workout. I like to keep trying different exercise plans and I'm more motivated if it's part of a challenge. I already do plenty of cardio, squatting and lifting. So today's exercise plan is the already done yoga, walking to/from the doctors and Zumba at 6pm. WFH days I aim for 15,000 steps but don't beat myself up if it's a bit under.
Tonight's dinner is leftover split pea curry from Monday so just need to heat that up after Zumba.
DD seems to be feeling a bit better and she's got something for the pain.
I need to have a midweek finance check later.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5 -
A good idea tto go with Mr SA. I suspect if you didnt Mr SA would downplay the problem.I am so glad to hear dd has pain relief at last.2
