Good idea to do more strength training. That is something I am trying to concentrate on now as well. We lose so much muscle mass as we age and I think our parents generation didn't always understand this, and then wondered why they couldn't get up off the loo, or carry the shopping, or walk without legs giving way.  I think if we lead an active life the steps should take care of themselves but strength training is all important.  What size weights do you lift so far?  I am trying to increase mine.
hope Mr SA enjoys his new purchases.

I am also predicting the need for a new man-bag to keep all those new purchases in!

Re muscle-strength as we age....I heard a radio programme a couple of years ago, it may have been one of Michael Moseley's R4 ones, I can't remember. Anyway, the bit that sticks in my mind is when they were discussing being able to get up out of a chair/sofa without using one's arms. Apparently if we can't do that in our 50s, we need to get practising because these are the same muscles which will ensure we can get off the loo unaided in our 90s. That really put it in context for me & although I loathe exercise & am far too heavy, I am pleased to say that I can get up off the sofa without using my arms to push myself up & I make sure I keep doing it!

I'm having a moment picturing Mr SA in his white clogs and orange sunglasses!😳 Also I wouldn't have thought backless shoes are ideal what with his periodic falls but I know you can't tell him anything SA......
I must say I've really felt so much better since I've been going to the gym regularly. I know my recent weight loss has a lot to do with it too but standing up from sitting has improved enormously. It's right what they say - you use it or you lose it.....

I need to get some heavier weights as I’ve just been using the ones I already have. I have 2kg dumbbells and a 4kg kettlebell. Plus various strength resistance bands. We did used to have barbells but got rid of them as they took up so much room. I have to do a fair bit of lifting now Mr SA isn’t capable plus I walk a lot with a very heavy backpack on my back (work equipment) so I probably do more strength activities than I realise.

Thanks to Foxgloves for the useful tip and I can confirm that I immediately stood up and sat down 3 times.  Told MrBC and he did the same.  There's also a conscious effort to not make that sighing/exhaling sound when standing up, sitting down, putting on shoes etc.

I predict MrSA will need a new necklace soon.

Mr SA falls sideways onto chairs/beds with a very loud ugh 🤣 Getting up involves someone else usually - there’s no hope for him is there.

On a separate note how about that thing whereby you go from standing to sitting cross legged on the floor then back up again without holding on to anything. Now there’s a challenge 😆

Funnily enough I can get up from the floor without using my arms/hands, but only if I'm holding (my very light!) weights. It must be to do with having a different centre of gravity..

Yes walking with back pack is good.
I have 3kg dumbells & a 4kg kettle bell, but thinking of trying heavier & maybe use alternate times till I get used to it.
I can't do that cross leg thing from the floor, but can get up without hands by going onto 1 knee.
I do " sit to stand" from a chair 20 times every morning & also sometimes do it from a low ottoman.
Also squats every day are good.
