Spendywendywoo said:@Sun_Addict, I would highly recommend doing the carpets yourself. We have a vax carpet cleaner and it’s great, with the winter our carpets weren’t looking great so we got someone in and it was not as good as the job we’d do. It takes quite a few hours to do our carpets properly but the money saved over the years is worth the effort.Well done on your vouchers tooI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

Very glad the vouchers are for you to treat yourself, any ideas what on yet?!
Several homes and a relationship ago, the carpets got professionally cleaned before moving and it stank so much we had to alert all parties that they really did not want to be doing viewings. Would not pay for chemical cabbage smell again!4 -
We have a Vax and we're very glad of it but a professional carpet cleaner did a marvellous job that we couldn't have achieved with the Vax.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Morning all, happy Tuesday.
WFH today so had my nice leisurely reading with a coffee. Struggling to get into my current book, Day One by Abigail Dean. It's not really grabbing me at the minute but I shall persevere.
Mr M online shop delivered and packed away. Rejected the sub which was own brand bread for a much more expensive one that they didn't price match. Rarely get subs or missing items so not complaining.
Exercise plan for today is dog walking later this morning, Power Punch at lunchtime, Resistance Bands tonight and another short yoga session. I'm really behind with this 30 day yoga challenge, it should've finished yesterday but still on day 20. I realised I've done some days twice when I lost count 😆 I've started to notice a bit of difference though and my quads aren't as tight as they were so it must be doing some good.
Tonight's dinner is a portion of the butternut squash and chestnut lasagne I made on Sunday with salad.
Ordered Mr SA a pair of wellies last night as he wants them to finish off the pond clearing/restoring properly. My initial thoughts were Mr SA + wellies + pond = 😱 but it's keeping him occupied and it's a little project for him so £12.90 not wasted hopefully.
Other tasks for today besides work:- Dye my eyebrows - what could possibly go wrong 😬
- Book nail appointment for holiday as they're already getting book up for April
- Clean kitchen
- Ironing
- Give the kitchen a good clean (DD is at work so it will be free of her cooking 10 course meals every 5 minutes)
- Try and make a decision about the carpet cleaner
- Clean stairs and landing carpet IF I can make a decision about the carpet cleaner
- Sort out recipes cut out of magazines that seem to be stacking up
- Defrost freezer 2 - yes finally!!
- March meal plan
- Gardening - weather dependent
- Possibly plant some seeds in heated propagator

Hiya 👋
Just jumping in to say if you are looking for a new Vax to buy and you have pets I can thoroughly recommend the Vax Smartwash Pet-Design currently of offer on Amazon. I have two labradors and two cats and I bought it when my youngest puppy had a bladder infection and was literally peeing every 10minutes all over the house. I tried with the usual spray bottle pet cleaners and it really wasn’t working. So much so my older totally house trained male dog decided peeing in the house was also fair game and no amount of little spray bottle was going to work on that volume of wee! So, I gave up and bought the Vax (and obviously took the little pupster to the vet!). I was amazed at just how easy it was to use and how much cleaner my carpets were. It also sucked tonnes of hair out of the carpet which I was not expecting since I had already hoovered it with my upright Dyson. Literally the best purchase I have made in years.
Oh, and I should just say I have no connection with Vax. I just happened to be talking about my carpet washer on my own diary and @Cherryfudge directed me to your thread.
Linking my diary ‘Teetering on the Brink’ below just so you know I am not some weirdo trying to sell you a Vax, just a DFW who likes clean floors. 😁

Congrats on the vouchers. Buy something nice for yourself
We have a Vax Shampooer. Its excellent.
Notice you said you have hard floors everywhere. How do you find having hard floor in bedroom? I get really bad allergies & I'm sure our bedroom carpet isn't helping. We keep talking about a new carpet, but I would love to have hard floor in there, so much easier to see the dust & hoover/steam. DH thinks it would make it too cold.Making the debt go down and savings go up

In the past I’ve hired a rug doctor carpet cleaner several times which did a great job. Then we got rid of some carpets and there was only myself and Dh in the house so we invested in a cheap vax cleaner. It was only a basic model and nowhere near as good as the rug doctor but does the job for us……don’t think it would cut the mustard with pets and heavy usage.January spends - £587.581

We've recently moved to laminate after always having carpet in the bedroom. I am now able to pull out the bed, bedside cabinets and cupboard once a week. I missed a week due to other commitments and I was shocked at how much dust had gathered under the bed in just two weeks
We haven't found it cold, though I wear flip flops round the house, which I leave next to the bed at night.Mortgage (MFD 04/2053) (Jan 25) £238,983.71. Overpayment set to £200 per month. Current: £236,171.58

Thank you for all your comments re the carpet cleaner. I'm hesitant to buy a vax as that was the last make I had and it was useless so it's good to read positive experiences. I'm almost certain I'll go for a Shark though.
@Makingabobor2 we have thick vinyl in our bedroom, as does DD. It's not cold underfoot even in bare feet although I wear slippers in the house. I also have a small rug on my side of the bed. I couldn't have a carpet because of Mr SA's accidents, he's worse than the pets in that respect.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5
