A good painter is worth every penny and won’t take very long (a lot quicker than doing it yourself)
So are carpet fitters and floor layers

  • My vote for the call re the loss of the padlock key is while you are on the train on Wednesday. I will have a bonus £1 on it being accompanied by insistence that you must return immediately as it is an emergency. 😁

Eek! How about suggesting he leaves a copy with a neighbour or your DD, just in case?

(Am I taking this too seriously?)

  • I agree with @MFWannabe with regard to good painters and decorators. I've never done it myself having had very DIY handy husbands/partners in the past and have always hired decorators since I've lived on my home.  At this stage of my life I'd worry about messing it all up! They'll also finish it a lot quicker.

My concern is that I won't be able to get one with availability before the works start. I'll definitely hire a painter for the dining room. Also another reason for me painting it is that I'm happy to move the furniture about whereas a painter would probably want the room cleared.

As it happens the builder is popping in tomorrow to double check the flooring colour for the dining room so I'll mention to him that I'm thinking of painting DD's room before he starts work just to see what he says. He might be able to influence a painter to fit it in.

Painters don’t normally insist rooms are emptied; they’ll normally use dust sheets to prevent any print splatter from getting on anything but will usually work with furniture in room. Are you able put furniture in the centre?

  • I must admit my last decorator was very good about moving furniture. He did recognise the fact that basically he had to work around the furniture.  DSis's OH did unscrew my bed and we stood the mattress and other bits of it against the wall in the hall but we pushed the chest of drawers and bedside tables into the centre of the bedroom and covered them up. Likewise with the furniture in the living room and he worked around all of it.
Good idea to check with the builder to see if he knows a good decorator that will fit in. It's like playing chess  getting all these tradesmen in place!

    That's Monday done.

Payday so the money shuffle has been done. Incorporated into this was the usual Monday finance check. The usual sinking funds pot funds have been moved from the current account into savings. Just waiting to send the money to the regular savers tomorrow.

What a miserable day weather wise. I managed to walk to work without getting soaked but it was a different story on the way home.

Stopped off at the decorating centre on the way home to pick up colour charts, noticed another decorating centre across the road from it so picked some up from there too. At least there's plenty of choice of paint suppliers on my route home.

After that popped into Lid! for a few things.

Won a lucky dip on the Lotto on Saturday. I can never get more than a lucky dip or the odd £5. Just not lucky with winning anything.

Today's exercise has been walking to/from work and I'm going to do a beginner strength yoga from the FitOn app at 5 before having a nice soak in the bath.

Tonight's dinner is scampi with butternut squash wedges and steamed veg.
