Series 1 of Happy Valley done ✅ OMG what a roller coaster of a ride that was 😱
Turning back to MSE reality, I’ve just had notification that VM want to put my bill up by £15 a month from May which is a 25% rise. I refuse to pay that much so the mission is on to find an alternative. We don’t have a landline, need decent WiFi as I WFH 2 days a week (sometimes more) and DD is a gamer. We don’t have a TV aerial but have a smart TV, we watch a lot of freeview programmes. We have a Roku box on the un-smart TV in the dining room which seems to work well. It would mean paying £76 for VM fairly basic package plus Netflix plus Prime bringing the total to just under £100 a month 😱Suggestions on a postcard please 🙏I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5 -
Ring VM and haggle. Tell them you are thinking of leaving and quote them the cheapest price you can see elsewhere. We do this every time. We have broadband, landline with free weekend calls and basic TV package with an upgraded Tivo box. Currently paying less than £40 a month.Making the debt go down and savings go up

Mr F went on VM live-chat & knocked our
£43-50. package (broadband only) down to £24. It was about to go up to £50-50 & there's no way we were paying that for just broadband. We don't even have a landline.
It's worth challenging the rise. Look at their offer for new broadband customers. Mr F asked to be moved to that or we would leave. They agreed & also gave us another £6 off each month as a "loyalty discount". We also have it in writing that the imminent price rise won't affect our new contract, so £50-50 down to £24.

P.S We don't have any TV channels from VM & although there was a time when Mr F wanted Prime & Netflix, I put my foot down because I didn't think we were really watching all that much on Netflix, let alone finding extra viewing time for Prime. He's fine with it now as we just pay for one to watch those films/series we like, then cancel for a bit & have a few months of the other one to catch up with stuff on there. We didn't have either of them all last summer & I added the monthly fee to our Leisure & Entertainment Pot instead.
You're absolutely right about all these services adding up to a tidy sum.

I usually do haggle with them by threatening to leave then get put through to retentions and end up with a better deal. I might do the live chat, thanks @foxgloves.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

You're welcome. I hope it works out for you. Mr F was in the live chat queue for 1.5 hrs but he was doing other stuff while he was waiting & considered the eventual saving worth the wait.

I’m in the chat queue right now. I’ve told them I want the package they’re offering to new customers with faster broadband speeds for less than I’m paying now 🤞I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5
