It hasn’t been as bad as I thought today. We’ve managed to keep reasonably warm, the sun shining through the windows helped. I dug out a halogen heater to warm the living room tonight. I went for a long walk in my lunch break and popped into Lidl for a few things which warmed me up.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the boiler problem is something simple and connected to the electrics tripping. I tried everything I could think of/research online to get the heating back on. At least we have hot water.

@enthusiasticsaver BG used to come out the same day at one time but the service has got worse since Covid/Brexit/insert whatever the current excuse for sub standard service is. I think we only got next day service as Mr SA is classed as a vulnerable person.

I do think some companies are extracting the Michael these days.  Especially from a service point of view.  They are more than happy to charge but to actually provide what they are charging for seems to be too much to ask.

Our CH boiler hasn’t been working properly since October. Been back and too between the boiler maker and the engineer who installed it, only 3 years old. Not been able to run hot water properly since October, heating has been ok. Hoping to have it all sorted by the end of this week. The thought of running a hot bath is keeping me going.xx

We used to have BG boiler cover but got rid of it when they were reluctant to come out and fix the thing.

We now use a local company to service the boiler once a year and for any repairs we need (which touch wood have been none so far)

It has worked out far cheaper in the long run.
  • I think I’m on an old BG plan so don’t pay an excess and get a service but it’s £30 a month now 😢 I only keep it as every time we had them out they come same day when I ring and tell them I only have it as I have a disabled child in house and if they aren’t going to come same day I’m cancelling it 🤷‍♀️ I pay it out if his DLA as we wouldn’t have it otherwise

My dad had BG cover - when his boiler stopped working in the cold snap last year he rang BG and they fobbed him off with covid related excuses and told him it was a 22 day wait. bearing in mind he was 94 at the time I rang them myself and having tortuously "passed security" they moved the appointment forward by 5 days.  S-in-L (a gas engineer) fixed the problem and was at the house when the engineer eventually came.  Engineer said the boiler was poor quality and hadn't been fitted very well and should be replaced until we told him BG had supplied and fitted it.

we've cancelled the cover now and Son in law will deal with any future problems.  It was a big wrench for my dad to give up the BG cover as he had always thought of them as safe, reliable and honest.
