Yay for PB win! 🥂
I am worried for you about how things'll be once you retire and have less money coming in if Mr SA can't grasp that his personal spends aren't infinite now

Lovely bit of kindness from Ernie. 😊

Morning all (just)
WFH today. The young cat got me up just before the alarm went off, so just before 4.30. She had 💩 downstairs so I had that to clear up. I was ready for my coffee after that!
In frog-busting news I've finally got around to ringing the tree surgeon. He's going to come and have a look at the weekend. If he can't do anything now at least I can get a price and it booked in for later in the year. I don't know why I kept putting this job off as the call took a couple of minutes at the most.
While I was on a roll I was going to message the painter for a quote on some painting I'd like doing but decided it was best to wait until I know what the tree work is going to cost.
Called the vet to order a prescription for the dog's meds and they want to check her over first. Booked her in for Saturday afternoon which will tie in with needing to pick up some bits from BnM while we're down that way.
Mentioned the above to Mr SA re tree surgeon, painter, vet and BnM trip. His response was 'while you're throwing all this money away don't forget it's my birthday this month and that's more important' 🤬
Reminded him he'll not only be on holiday for his birthday he'll no doubt end up with a load of new clothes and expect a present on top of that! Also reminded him that the whole world doesn't revolve around him and what he perceives he needs.
Anyway…
Opened a cash ISA and will move the emergency fund into there.
Today's exercise so far has been live yoga first thing, dog walking/litter picking on the park and a 20 minutes Joe Wicks arms and abs session. No Zumba again tonight so I'm going to do some more gardening. I got quite a bit done last night. I also need to jet wash the recycling bin.
Tonight's dinner is tikka spiced salmon with pilaf.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping) -.literally have been run over by a bike, mobility scooter and a car - still here 💪5 -
As a 'birthday twin' of Mr SA, I am getting in trouble for the opposite reason.....as in, "It's your birthday soon & you still haven't given me a proper present list".
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!3 -
Imagine if I asked Mr SA to produce a present list 😬 I reckon a watch, sunglasses, man bag, obscure aftershave from the 70s, bracelet, necklace and maybe a wallet 😂

More canvas shoes and a C0sta gift card? Crate of lipsalves?

Can you just wrap some of the stuff he's already got but probably forgotten about?
4 -
Ooh that’s a brilliant idea! Maybe you could wrap them whilst he’s relieving you of one job - pressure washing the bin,p’rps?

Oh that has made me laugh out loud, @Sun_Addict, though there is maybe potential in stating a reasonable number of birthday items so that he can prioritise rather than thinking anything goes in birthday month? I remember a fellow choir member coming to church wearing what I thought was a lovely fragrance back in the 70s & it was 'Blue Stratos' after-shave. I didn't buy any…..she was older than me, so copying felt aspirational, but I did cover myself liberally in it from the 'tester' bottle next time I was in Woolworths!
