Live alone with a standard size fridge freezer.
Counted 20 full portions for meals but couldn't resist squeeze in pack of 8 chicken breasts reduced by half price
Upon cleaning out cupboards this weekend to keep warm without putting heating on counted 17 tins of tomatoes...really need to stop looking!!
Friend called last night to give me an update om local ongoing argument, apparently my name has been mentioned, but she gave me a small out of date gammon joint from t05co "for the dog" it`s in a vacuum sealed pack, apparently already cooked, just needs 15 mins to reheat and add the glaze, browsed my recipes, so in pot from freezer, chicken stock, small tomatoes, garlic pellet from when I confit some garlic and it went too far, so frozen in ice trays, added last 2 indoor carrots, shed stock looking okay for a while longer, couple of celery ribs, have chopped remainder and into freezer for soups and stews, onion and a few herbs, generous sprinkle of red lentils, All slow cooing for later when I cook the gammon, sorry dog you will just have to have your chicken, gammon not good for you anyway.
Do I need it or just want it.8 -
Have just finished knitting a jumper for myself - long sleeves, round neck, in stocking stitch but with a narrow lace insert panel down the sleeves to make it a bit less less "plain" - so that's 8 x 50g balls of 4-ply gone from the stash.
I started it before Xmas but, as I've only just finished it, I'm counting it as one of this year's successes.
Of course, there's the usual few grams left over to add to the stash of oddments - but I have a plan for those.
Food-wise, I've sliced up a small gammon joint and picked the meat from a small chicken (both now portioned and frozen) and have used the gammon stock for celery & bacon soup and the chicken stock for vegetable soup. Tomorrow I'll make some pastry and use the scraps of meat for two quiches. Far from emptying the freezer, it seems to be getting fuller! On the plus side, I don't need any grocery shopping this week - not that I want to go out in this horrendous rain.
One biro binned (all used up) and Xmas cards recycled. Small successes I know, but it's better than nothing!Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -

2 bags of soup and 1 of stock have gone back in!Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

Change of plan for the quiches because of full freezer. Used the gammon scraps with grated cheese as a filling for omelettes with toast for brekkie and the chicken bits are now coronation chicken to have with salad in a wrap tomorrow lunchtime. Plus point - haven't had to put the oven on.Be kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Hi, it's now day 12 of my no spend on food challenge. Things are getting tougher but I just need to be more inventive 🤪. I am getting fed up of crackers and cheese so I have taken the second last pitta bread from the freezer for my lunch. I will have it with corned beef ( also from the freezer) and brown sauce. I'm going to make oat bread at the weekend as really craving a sandwich. I love home made bread but hardly make it as it gets yeasty so quickly. But being desperate I will slice it and freeze it. I usually have muesli and toast for breakfast but with no bread left I've been having IKEA cinnamon buns ( a Xmas pressie) but they'll be finished tomorrow. Might bake a batch of scones - the French saying " let them eat cake" comes to mind.
Ive cleaned out the fridge this morning and the carrots are going black, parsnips are getting hairy and the pepper is going soggy so will need to get my thinking cap on 🤔
Dinners are fine - it's the lunches that are difficult. I was at my friends yesterday and had some very sweet delicious red grapes. I'm realising I might be addicted to grapes - picture that scene from When Harry Met Sally 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

we've got i think 4 half loves of bread in the freezer (i have a horrid habit of freezing home made bread when it starts to go a bit stale but then never defrosting it). so we're okay on that point. now its only me back at home during the day lunches arent a problem (i just dont tend to eat lunch). but 'meals' are getting more difficult. we have lots of food in. its just putting it on a plate that 'go together' and have a decent mix of protien/carb/veg without having to spend a lot of thinking time.
but halfway through the month so getting thereAlmost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

I put the oven on yesterday and since there was space made some cheese and olive scones which used up the last of the Christmas olives The scones are now in the freezer., DH will eat them with soup.
He's nearly finished the Christmas cake. There are are few mince pies in the freezer which we will have as a pudding at the weekend. I have half a jar of mincelmeat left so next time I put the oven on I'll make some mincemeat muffins- I think I have a recipe somewhere.8 -
I've read 4 of the magazines; 3 are in paper recycling, 1 is in the 'Sunday' bag to pass on to a church member this Sunday.
