Hey all (still here, just!!) LONG POST ALERT
Been a very 💩 week! Started last Saturday when hubby was sent to hospital! (Long story!)
He had a thrombosis in his fistula arm for 2 weeks, was told it’s ok as not a deep vein so not likely to go to heart/lungs/brain. Was told it would disperse on its own. He kept telling them it was moving!! Anyway vascular nurse refused to do dialysis as clot was too close to fistula and didn’t want to take the chance. So Saturday we sat in day room while 2 Drs examined his arm. ( while there they had a wanderer, poor gent kept coming in thinking he could get out. At one point he got down on hands and knees to crawl out the window 😧.)
Hubby was poked, prodded & scanned, given blood thinners & antibiotics. Drs seems very concerned compered to kidney centre (was a renal ward we were on too). Allowed home to return next morning.
Sunday spent long day there, more poking, prodding & scanning ( at this point no dialysis since Thursday!) Allowed home to return next day (Groundhog Day) to be admitted!
Monday more in-depth deep scan of fistula, also kept saying they would put neck line in & would be on HDU for 24hrs! Ended up having angioplasty as fistula had narrowed & finally has dialysis late Tuesday. By this time hubby was feeling very poorly due to toxins build up 🥺. Long & short of it, he came home Wednesday evening!I have been doing half days to be with him (except Wednesday as not needed due to strike!). Including Thursday as Hubby had ANOTHER scan at kidney centre. Did full day Friday but felt exhausted (CFS triggered). Saturday just as bad!
Hubby not out of woods yesterday as fistula is still dodgy with the thrombosis fully blocking his lower entry point & not a lot of room between bottom & top due to narrowing!
All in all a very stressful week! STS though! Also got myself a smart hoop 🤗Its not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T

Recipe for Tin Can Massaman Curry
Serves 4
Ready in 25 minutes
1 large onion, roughly chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
3 tbsp medium curry powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 x 400g cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed reserving the water from 1/2 can
Large can of new potatoes, drained and halved or quartered
400g ca of chopped tomatoes
15g fresh coriander, finely chopped
Put the onion and 3 tbsp of water in a wide, non-stick frying pan that you can put a lid on. Stick it over a medium-low heat, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion is starting to soften, stirring occasionally.
Add the garlic, curry powder and cinnamon, and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in the chickpeas, potatoes and tomatoes. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15 minutes, covered, stirring now and again.
Stir the chopped coriander into the curry and divide between bowls.

What a week you've had @TakeItEazy. Hope your DH gets sorted out very soon, it seems ages since you first posted about the clot. 🤔 What a shame it got to such a stage before any action. ☹️
Thanks for the recipe @Coxy11. I agree with @joedenise, it does sound like a Jack Monroe type recipe. Good that SW is aware of the need to eat cheaply on plan. 👍
It's been a beautiful day here and we got out for a lovely walk in the sunshine. 🌞
Today's EE plan -
B- HEB toast, fried eggs (P), baked beans (F), HEA milk
L- ham (P), fried bits from fridge (S, F), beetroot (S)
D- roast chicken (P), SW roast potatoes, LM stuffing (F), many vegetables (S)
Syns - HM gravy 4, weekend wine 😁0 -
Thanks for the recipe @Coxy11. Definitely a cheap recipe - I'll make it even cheaper using dried chickpeas! It's good to have some recipes which you can make easily with ingredients from the cupboard.
Got a TGTG bag from Morrisons this afternoon from the next town; not as good as the ones I've had from the local one recently but got : 2 bags of parsnips (some we'll have tonight with our roast) rest prepped and frozen; 2 pointy peppers (will use them to stuff for lunch one day during the week); pack of mange toute; pack of fresh thyme (will probably dry or freeze as not something I use that frequently); loaf of Hovis wholemeal bread which I've frozen; a soft bread which I've no idea what it is but DH looked at it as says it's something Jamaican (he can have that!); 2 Portuguese custard tarts which DH has already eaten! pack of blood oranges (one of which needed binning as it was very soft and mouldy!); pack of organic mushrooms.

That’s a good haul from the TGTG bag @joedenise.There is a new 12 week countdown book offer starting next week. The book is “how to eat healthily on a budget” - not called that but you get my drift!Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings0

It annoys me a bit when they do these offers of free books with a Countdown, us target members always miss out and end up having to wait until the offer is over and then pay for exactly the same book! Hopefully it will have some decent cheap recipes in it. Will have to see if I can "borrow" a copy and have a look to see if it's going to be worth buying!

I'm always disappointed when people say that it's expensive to do SW. There's something wrong when junk food is more expensive than healthy eating it's getting harder though because, as well as the food prices rising, the cooking costs are huge too. ☹️
Except for the (already scoffed) custard tarts @joedenise, that's quite a SW friendly TGTG haul.👍0 -
There were loads of bags available when I collected mine and I'd already seen 3 people walking out with bags! They were letting you help yourself to a bag from the rack. I picked that one just because it was the only one with a wholemeal loaf in it!
I was glad that DH scoffed the custard tarts to be honest as I could quite easily have eaten one of them after dinner tonight if he hadn't! It's one of the few sweet things I like although not had one since I started SW!
