Morning all, we have a couple of early birds today @VALM and @Abbafan1972!  It sounds very windy outside this morning but can't actually see anything yet as it's still too dark.

I have WI this morning but not feeling particularly slim and my scales yesterday informed me I'd only lost 0.5lb which in effect means 0.5lb on after forgetting to take off my jumper last week at group!  I won't be forgetting today as the jumper I'll be wearing is a very heavy one!

    Today's plan:

    B - mushroom omelette - P; S;  will also have a banana at group F
    L - Toasted cheese sandwich - HEA2; HEB
    D - lamb chop, mash, veg - P; S; F

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - cheese
    HEB - bread
Syns - no idea!  nothing planned at the moment.

Back later after WI with what the damage or otherwise is!

    Have a good day everyone.

@bubbs - tell your mum to have a look at the Age UK website for info.  This factsheet might be of use (I haven't read it all but it seems you mum's financial needs will be taken into consideration before the local authority assess how much your dad needs to pay):

    https://www.ageuk.org.uk/globalassets/age-ni/documents/factsheets/fs39_paying_for_care_in_a_care_home_if_you_have_a_partner_fcs.pdf

Hope that is of some use.

    Morning all,

    Sorry to confuse you @Abbafan1972!
That chutney sounds lovely @VALM and well done on your loss - great stuff x
Good luck for WI @joedenise x

I ended up falling asleep in the chair last night, went to bed and couldn't sleep for coughing. So flipping annoying! I was up early this morning as bin men are due today for recycling (we managed to fill all 3 boxes this past fortnight) plus food waste. I've also put a wash on.

Dinner tonight is lamb hotpot using a packet mix I picked up in Sains. It's 6 syns for the whole packet so 1.5 syns for me. Will bulk it out with lo beef too as not sure we have 450g of lamb leftover from Christmas day. I'm going to do it in the SC instead of the oven.

    Food today:
    B - grapes, blueberries, fruit wheats, mullerlight - HEB, 0.5, some S
    L - smoked mackerel, salad leaves, tomatoes, pickles - 1.5 plus S
    D - lamb/beef hotpot, carrots, green beans - 1.5 plus S
    HEA - milk
Syns - hi fi bar plus 3.5 so 6.5 total

    Have a good day all

    Morning all.

Yes, as it’s still very dark it still feels like the middle of the night!

Glad I got the 1st day back at work out of the way yesterday.

I meant to post my food yesterday, so here is a summary.

Breakfast - Banana, Frozen fruit, fat free natural yoghurt

Lunch - whole meal pitta bread (HEB), cucumber, tomato, shredded ham, Nando’s perinase sauce (not sure of syns).  Muller light rhubarb (0.5 syns I think).

Tea - Bolognese made with 5% beef mince, mushrooms, onion, tinned chopped tomatoes, beef stock pot. Garlic & herb potatoes added as they were going out of date (2 syns).

Snacks/other syns - Grapes & apple slices, skinny crunch bar orange (3 syns), 3 x roses chocolates (about 6 syns), small bag of haribo sweets (not sure of syns).

I am easing myself back into it. Returning to group on 12th January, hopefully refreshed and rejuvenated. 😊

    Xx

Morning all.  Well done on the loss @VALM

@bubbs I think your mum can be entitled to something like 50% of your dad's personal pension if he were to go into care and she stays in their home if I remember correctly from when my grandad had to go into a home while my nan was still alive.  But the social workers and hospital should always be planning for your dad to go back to his own home with support to stay there as long as it's safe for him to be there.

Went for a wet and windy walk yesterday but felt good to be out of the house again and is a habit I want to keep all year.  Feeling really bloated this morning though and realised that star week is fast approaching 🙄  Had some porridge with a banana for breakfast, lunch is more carrot and coriander soup with an orange on the side and dinner is ham and leek risotto using up the last bits of the Christmas ham (after I've made a sandwich to take to work tomorrow using some of it).

Hope everyone has a good day!

Hi @Abbafan1972 - the Nandos perinaise is 2.5 syns for a level tbsp. That's for any of the varieties - vegan, mild, medium or hot. Yes you're correct that Mullerlight Rhubarb (and Rhubarb Custard and Crumble flavour) are 0.5 syns.

Morning all, back to work today and I'm exhausted.  Never slept a wink last night for the blooming wind and rain. Rain was so heavy that part of the guttering couldn't cope and split on a corner joint so will have to get someone out to fix it.

Great to see all the newbies and returners to the thread and well done on the loss @VALM I'm already feeling less bloated being back on plan properly since Monday.

    Today's food:
    B - f/f Greek yoghurt, fruit
    L - lentil soup
    D - bolognaise pasta bake, parmesan (HEXA2)
    Syns - none planned yet

    Have a good day all.

I have just had lunch of 2 pieces of smoked mackerel (140g) plus salad leaves, plum cherry tomatoes and pickles (we have sooooo many pickles leftover from Christmas including cornichons with chilli that are small but very deadly...). I feel absolutely stuffed now.

Has anyone tried jackfruit? We have a new Polish(?) SM in the town and they have large tins in brine for £1.99. Have heard it has the texture of pulled pork? There's a recipe for chilli on the SW app so might give that a go at the weekend?

@Coxy11 I wouldn't say jackfruit is exactly like pulled pork but it's fairly close - looks a little like chunks of tuna when you take it out of the tin but shredding it with forks like you would with pulled pork gives the same effect.  Has little to no flavour so have to make sure to add lots of herbs and spices to it 👍
