This has come up in a couple of places recently so I've decided to revise SMART Goals
S SPECIFIC A specific goal is the difference between 'wishing' and having a plan. Generic (non-specific goal "I want a new job". Specific goal - "By the end of next year, I want to have started a career in marketing" (carp but specific)
M MEASURABLE You need criteria to measure your goal, so you know where you are up to eg I aim to lose 1lb per week in the next 12 weeks, by planning what I eat and drink
A ACHIEVABLE/ ATTAINABLE Do you have the time, the skills, the money (some qualifications will cost, changing hours to accommodate your goal with have costs), or can you get them. Thinking about this is particularly important if you are struggling atm - how many hours a week need to be set aside and what other activities or responsibilities can be ditched/ done by someone else. Poorly people need to pace themselves especially with physical activities (or mentally draining ones)
R REALISTIC You need to be aware of your limitations. Setting unrealistic goals "i want to have a multi million pound business" means you will fail and feel bad about yourself. Realistic "I want to start a side hustle using my photography skills" (one portrait per week, one wedding a month) and see how it develops. (This is also a low risk option as your primary income will remain and you can use your home rather than renting premises).
T TIME Bound - You won't get anywhere unless you set specific deadlines for particular tasks - "I want 3 large pieces and 2 dozen small items to sell at my first craft fair in x weeks". It helps keep your focus - it's no use filling your spare bedroom or garage with 'stock' to sell if you haven't worked out where you will sell or how much you need to sell to cover your costs and time.
Rollover goals
This came up in a GYST podcast (lovely Irish lady living in the USA). Some of us set the same intentions/ resolutions each year and 12 months later, they are still there, no progress has been made. She suggested setting these aside (only temporarily, they can sit in the back of a notebook somewhere) and find something else to work on - a smaller goal or something fun or pleasurable. Just moving the goal from one year to the next (it's okay if you have made progress and want to build on your success) reinforces your 'failure', so stop beating yourself up. Go for an easy win that will boost your confidence.

Neither of us slept well last night so it was a late rise but, nevertheless, quite a productive and relaxing day.
We didn't go out so another NSD - No 3.
The Christmas tree has been taken down and put away together with all the decorations. Living room is looking a bit bare now. My beautiful white, Christmas tulips (a gift from one on my neighbours) have finally passed away so tomorrow I shall buy some lilies to brighten up that corner. A bit of an indulgence but it makes me happy and that's what 2023 is all about in my book.
We've had an afternoon watching Ghengis Khan. I first saw it in 1965 with my younger brother and best friend (sadly now no longer with us) whilst on holiday in Northumberland. I loved it. Well, who wouldn't if it stars Omar Sharif and Stephen Boyd? Himself thought it was great (surprisingly!). Now watching a history the the Hapsburgs and Vienna - one of my favourite cities. I really hope to go back there one day.
We had a bit of an unusual lunch blue cheese, Parma ham and sundried tomatoes with crusty bread. Tonight we're having roast beef, roast potatoes and sprouts. Left overs all being used up.
Will need to do a shop tomorrow as I think we need some veg and milk. But I do have a list and Himself has been warned - No biscuits!!!
Have a lovely evening. everyone. xxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.10 -
NSD #2Ooh grandmanerd, SMART goals - reminds me of training and performance reviews at workWent shopping, and also bought a birthday present and some cards, so certainly not a NSD today! Got very wet in the process, as it was bucketing down most of the day. My cold is nearly better, so kill or cureDD and the little ones came round after lunch for tea and biscuits. I gave DD her birthday card and present to open on the day (Thursday) as I won't see her then. She will be at work and I will be doing my stint at the shop where I have my sales unit. After she went, I made a pie from the rest of the Christmas ham, a chicken breast from the freezer and some leftover pastry, plus various other leftovers and a few frozen peas. It is currently in the oven and will do for dinner for a couple of days. Not much else done apart from putting the shopping away (it was only a small shop), emailing some builders about my leaky roof light, checking the banks and noting the bills that had gone out in my spending diary, and a bit of tidying, but OH cleaned the bathroom while I was at the shops8

Today I am grateful for dc not insisting on getting up when I did, for a really productive and useful day back at work, for keeping warm, for my book, for dc doing some school work, for leftovers to look forward to for tea, for only having 2 more classes to prep for Friday, for good music.

Had a good day today. Managed my cravings, got stuff done, kids had minimal screen time and I read loads. Dinner is left over goose stovies. Also managed to freeze 2 0.5L jars of goose stock with meat.
Dreading DH being back soon as he's a massive trigger of cravings and enabler. I've done nearly 3 days now and really don't want to ruin it. I can resist!!!DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/2510 -
Still in the grip of the mad lurgy but I've cooked the brisket with 2 packs of casserole veg and 4 pieces of chicken. The meat is now back in the fridge. Tomorrow I'll chop it all up along with extra veg (carrots, celery and leeks + whatever I feel like chopping until I run out of energy. Chicken is going to be pasta bake, curry, stew and if I can't think of anything else the last piece will be salads/ sandwiches. Lots of bits of rubbish removal and quite a bit of bathroom cleaning (left stuff to soak on New Year's day and most of the gunk is coming off easily with wipes.
I'm on NSD3 and if I don't start getting better faster, I'm still 3 or 4 days away from wanting to venture out.
Grateful for yummy brisket, ice cream, ice lollies and fruit.8 -

Evening all,
NSD #2/15 today, I went out early doors for a walk before work. Work was very busy. Too many hats worn, it all get muddled and confused.
But then I made meatballs new recipe tried out (probably 6 portions or so) and prepped a big slaw salad to have as a snack / with leftover roast pork. Love a batch cook.
It's day 3 and I have already got to the 30 different plants consumed. I wonder how many I will get to! There are 5 more in the slaw!
Grateful for, strongly encouraging myself to go for a walk this morning, having a couple of cancellations to help ease the hat juggling, coffee.
