    Lesson learnt!

Have looked to see if can get an adapter but these don't seem readily available over here. Guess I'll be re-listing the SATA and buying an IDE!!

    Rubiales, I don't want to come across rude, but you will really struggle to get a larger hdd on your xbox unless you are pretty PC savvy. Here is the procedure;

    1. copy your bios file from you existing xbox hdd
    2. create ISO using bios file (there's a windows app for this)
    3. create LINUX boot disk on cd-rom using ISO.
    4. insert new ATA hdd into pc as master drive and boot from CD-ROM
    5. format and create partitions on new hdd and copy key files across (automated)
    6. lock new hdd (optional)
    7. boot xbox and hot-swap new disk
    8. hope for the best!

I will dig out the on-line guide I used and post it here, but it is sooo not straight-forward!

p.s. please don't take offence, I've been messing with PC since the early 1990's and I found it very hit and miss - it took me over 4 hours the first time and just over 1 hour the second time round.

Very dicey procedure. I have softmodded two, but don't fancy trying this.

Would still like to have a look at it. IIRC some of the guides talked about trasnferring the files over, and didn't mention hot-swapping. Do all methods rely on hot swap?

Tell me about it. I have been trying to unlock a Vonage VoIP router, and instructions look easy enough, set up DNS to point to my PC, TFTP server, etc. I have been trying to unlock it for 2 days without luck. Things are always very hit and miss when it comes to networking, hacking PC's.
  • I upgraded to a 500Gb drive today using a combination of many of the online guides, hopefully condensed here:

    Do your soft-mod
FTP into your XBOX and back it up to your PC
Copy eeprom.bin from xbox to eeprom folder in xboxhdm (via ftp to pc)
    Download XBOXHDM
Download the AID (Auto Installer Deluxe)
Copy eeprom.bin from xbox to eeprom folder in xboxhdm (via ftp to pc)
    Ftp xbox's C & E drives contents to empty C & E folders in xboxhdm
    Run make-win-iso.bat
Burn newly created 'Linux.iso' to cd
Set pc to boot from cd in bios
Set old xbox drive as primary master
Boot from CD & choose option 3, follow instructions to unlock the HD
Set this drive as secondary master
Install your new HDD as primary master
Reboot PC & wait for the default option
Choose option 3 to clone HD & make sure you go from the old to the new drive
Reboot & choose option 3, follow instructions to lock the HD
Remove the new HD & set jumpers back to cable select
    Install in XBOX
Put the AID disc in your XBOX
Execute xbpartitioner from the tools menu
Highlight Partition 6 - this will be your F drive and click down on the RIGHT analog stick to disable that partition
F should now be disabled. Press the START button and then the Y button to confirm the disabling/deleting of the partition. Now, click the BACK button and press A to quit xbpartitioner.
    Restart xbpartitioner
F should still be disabled, so now just highlight Partition 6, and press the A button then press the START button and Y to confirm.
So long as F is over 250Gb the drive will be formatted with 32k clusters to avoid corruption. Once it finishes, just press the BACK button and then press A to quit xbpartitioner and you're done.

    Good luck

This is the guide I used .... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/533828

I can't find the article with the hot-swap procedure, but I needed to use it on both of my xboxes (already soft-modded).

Lots of descussion seems to have started up again re: upgrading the hard drive.

If you have a v1.5 or lower, you can upgrade the Hard drive easily without a PC, by following my guide from elier on this thread:

If you don't know what version you have, you can find out by checking the serial number and looking here:

I don't know if it's a functioning guide or not (never seen anyone confirm it works), but this is the best HD replacement guide I've seen for people who've already softmodded with Ndure (halfway down page). i do believe you don't have to hotswap either (seems like you grap eeprom, put it on floppy, put xbox hd in pc as normal, boot linux os util, then use the eeprom on floppy with linux util to unlock the drive, take files off, lock drive + remove, then add all files to new drive and lock it):

On a side note - anyone got a Wii, and ever softmodded it or wanted to (afaik it's just for homebrew, linux and emus)?

I've got XBMC working, and streaming works fine, but is there anything else I could do with my Xbox now it's modded?

    Ladies & gents,

Basically I have had xbmc running like a dream on my old laptop. This is now past it's best so I have bought a new one.

All of my files are kept on an external hdd f:

    basically the path was laptop\f\downloads

I have called my new laptop laptop2 and typed in the path laptop2\f\downloads

When I do this I keep getting asked for my lock preferences.

Any ideas? They will have to be in laymans terms I'm afraid as I'm not the best.

    Thanks in advance

    Barrie
