I've got XBMC working, and streaming works fine, but is there anything else I could do with my Xbox now it's modded?

You could install a flavour of linux on it too e.g. : http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Xebian_HOWTO

If you have an xbox with a 10Gb drive, there's a 2Gb F: drive that never gets used. The xebian installer can install xebian to here, then you'd make a favourite / shorcut in xbmc pointing to the xebian xbe, so you could start it up as you please.

Add a keyboard and mouse through the usb port / hub, and you've got a PC (add an x2vga adapter and you can use HD resolutions.)

You can browse the web with firefox/ use IM / do whatever you could normally do in Debian Linux.

According to a post on HotUKDeals these are now going for £9.98 in Game. Maybe an amendment to the title or a new thread is appropriate?

That's a brilliant price, everyone should have one. Think I'll buy another...

Very tempted to get another one for a tenner! Should be getting a 37" plasma tomorrow which leaves two reasonably large crts and two other xboxs to attempt the Forza multi screen :D

oh how i long for the day that a PS3 goes for a tenner....

and something i noticed last time - the price at GAME for pre-owned xboxes has a big affect on other places selling them. gamestation will now likely lower their price within a few weeks, as will cex, and ebay prices should drop too.

Thanks to all for help re HD change. DH was a sys. prog for about 20 years and DS is a bit of a computer geek so hopeful that one of them will manage this ;)

Price reductions mentioned in recent posts look great, too. We don't need another but excellent news for all who get them for a tenner!

Hi all, there should be 2 in stock of these in the Potteries shopping centre in Hanley @ £9.98 in the Game shop on the lowest floor not the upstairs one.

Would anyone still be prepared to lend out or sell a memory card/game with the special save on please? Will obviously cover P&P etc, please PM :)
  • I upgraded to a 500Gb drive today using a combination of many of the online guides, hopefully condensed here:

    Do your soft-mod
FTP into your XBOX and back it up to your PC
Copy eeprom.bin from xbox to eeprom folder in xboxhdm (via ftp to pc)
    Download XBOXHDM
Download the AID (Auto Installer Deluxe)
Copy eeprom.bin from xbox to eeprom folder in xboxhdm (via ftp to pc)
    Ftp xbox's C & E drives contents to empty C & E folders in xboxhdm
    Run make-win-iso.bat
Burn newly created 'Linux.iso' to cd
Set pc to boot from cd in bios
Set old xbox drive as primary master
Boot from CD & choose option 3, follow instructions to unlock the HD
Set this drive as secondary master
Install your new HDD as primary master
Reboot PC & wait for the default option
Choose option 3 to clone HD & make sure you go from the old to the new drive
Reboot & choose option 3, follow instructions to lock the HD
Remove the new HD & set jumpers back to cable select
    Install in XBOX
Put the AID disc in your XBOX
Execute xbpartitioner from the tools menu
Highlight Partition 6 - this will be your F drive and click down on the RIGHT analog stick to disable that partition
F should now be disabled. Press the START button and then the Y button to confirm the disabling/deleting of the partition. Now, click the BACK button and press A to quit xbpartitioner.
    Restart xbpartitioner
F should still be disabled, so now just highlight Partition 6, and press the A button then press the START button and Y to confirm.
So long as F is over 250Gb the drive will be formatted with 32k clusters to avoid corruption. Once it finishes, just press the BACK button and then press A to quit xbpartitioner and you're done.

    Good luck

That's the best concise guide I've ever seen ;)
I've saved a copy as a text file on my PC as a crib sheet for if I do another one.

Glad you mentioned the 32k clusters....I found out about those the hard way the first time I fitted a bigger drive!
