    Thanks Irrelevant and Will

However I cant transfer over zipped files as I am using xploder lite which only recognises the game saves.

I will look at irrelevant's links tonight - cant acceess from work.

    cheers
I used an Xploder Lite but with Action Replay drivers, then followed this http://www.freewebtown.com/jellyman/XBMC.html

Thought I'd broke mine again...the latest T3CH bleeding edge has a bug which stops the Milkdrop presets from working and instead you get a very boring (milky) white visualization...which is supposed to be fixed in todays release.

You can download Action Replay Xbox from the code junkies website here - it says it's an update version, but it installed onto my laptop without asking for or needing a previous version to be there.

Ok Guys - sorry to be a pain but I am almost there.

Last night I managed to do the soft mod using the instructions on this thread. At the end of the process I got the "sucessfull" message.

When it is switched on I have the EvoX dash board ok - but it doesn't do anything:confused:

I put in a couple of dvds but the "Play game or media from DVD" function does nothing.

None of the other functions do anything either (emulator etc)

I have a feeling there is something basic I am overlooking - so any help appreciated.

    Thanks again

I’ve done this twice now (with a 1.3 and a 1.4) – I understand the procedure is the same from 1.1 right up to 1.5, and It’s very easy. If you’ve ever fit a new drive in your PC, you’ll breeze through it.

I haven’t tried it yet with a 1.6, but I know the theory – 1.6 info is provided below, but best to check with someone who’s tried it.

    You Will need:
    T19 + T20 screwdrivers
A Hard drive power splitter / Y cable (pennies from any pc building shop)
    A Larger hard drive

    1. Install CHIMP as a utility (it's on the SID disc).
    2. Unplug the Xbox
    3. Open up the x-box.
    4. Remove the HDD.
    5. Set the Jumper on the original HDD to "master"
    6. Replace original HDD.
    7. Set the jumper on the new HDD to "Slave"
    8. Remove IDE and power cables from the DVD drive.
    9. plug the DVD drive's power cable into the splitter.
    10. Plug the IDE cable loosly back into the DVD drive.
    11. Plug the power splitter into both the new HDD and the DVD drive.
    12. Plug in, and power up the Xbox.
    13. Run "Chimp"
    14. Once Chimp is running, unplug the IDE from the DVD drive, and plug it into the new HDD.
    15. Using Chimp "scan drives"
    16. Check that both drives are found.
    17. Select “clone master to slave” – this will take a while…
    18. When finished select “lock slave”
    19. Power down and unplug the xbox.
    20. Set your new HDDs jumper to “cable select”.
    21. Disconnect all drives.
    22. Remove the power splitter.
    23. Refit the DVD drive, and fit your new HDD.
    24. Power up and test
    25. If all is okay, re assemble your x-box,
    26. Theoretically you can use the old xbox drive in a PC now, but it’s only 8gig, so I’d label it, and put it somewhere safe – if your new HDD ever dies, you’ll be able to use the original to rescue your xbox – once used in a PC, this will not work.

    V1.6 users:
I haven’t done this myself, but I understand that the 1.6 can be CHIMPed as follows

    You Will Need:
    Everything listed above.
A PC or laptop with network card.
    A Network crossover cable.

    1. Learn how to FTP your Xbox (see elsewhere).
    2. follow steps 1 – 11 above
    3. connect your PC to your xbox via the crossover cable
    4. Follow from step 12 above, until your xbox looks as though it’s crashed (usually step 13 or 15)
    5. When the xbox looks as though it’s crashed, click “Start >>> Run” (on your PC)
    6. On your OC, type “CMD” in the “run” box, click OK
    7. CHIMP should now appear on your PC, proceed as above (picking up where you left off) until after step 19 (using your PC keyboard and monitor, instead of your Xbox controller and TV.)
    8. disconnect your PC from the Xbox
    9. Continue from step 20 onwards/

    Well done so far!

Did you install the emulators and apps yet, or did you just get as far as softmodding?

If you havn't installed anything yet, burn the SID disc to a DVD-R or a CDR, pop it in the drive, then power up.

You've got this far, don't give up - if you get stuck again, keep posting.

Well done! Basically you have performed the softmod bit so now you need to install XBMC. Following the advice to burn the SID disc is probably the easiest method, otherwise you would have to create an "Apps" folder and FTP XBMC over to it using something like FlashFXP.

Post back if you get stuck.

  • 1. Learn how to FTP your Xbox (see elsewhere).

    Welcome to Elsewhere;)

How to FTP your Xbox with software you already own:

    You will need:
A Softmoddded Xbox (see my earlier tutorial)
A PC / Laptop with network card
    A Crossover Cable

    1. Connect your PC to your xbox with a network crossover cable.
    2. XBOX: In your hacked dash (i.e. Evolution X), find the “settings” tab, then find your network settings.
    3. XBOX: Set your IP to “STATIC”
    4. XBOX: Change your IP address to 192.168.0.3
    5. XBOX: Set primary DNS as 192.168.0.4
    6. XBOX: Click SAVE
    7. XBOX: Set username and password as “xbox”
    8. PC: Go to "Start" >>> "Control Panel" >>> "Network and Internet Connections" >>> "Network Connections"
    9. PC: Right click "Local Area Connections" and click "Properties" Click on "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" then the "Properties" button.
    10. PC: Now, make sure that the "Use the following IP address" is selected. Type in this IP address, 192.168.0.4 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 Click "Ok”.
    11. Reboot both your Xbox and your PC
    12. PC: Open internet explorer
    13. PC: In IE’s address bar type ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.0.3
    14. If you experience problems, disable the firewall on your local network (PC: “start” >>> “control panel” >>> “network connections” >>> Right click “Local area network” >>> “Properties” >>> “Advanced” >>> “settings”) and repeat steps 12 & 13
    15. You can now browse your Xbox’s HDD via Internet Explorer, and drag and drop files between your Xbox and your PC.
