Hi
I've been to your link and my xbox has the following 2nd group of serial numbers:34205
From this it gives made in 2003 in week 43 ( the production line from the first group is 6)
However on looking at the table there is no week 43 listed for 2003 .
You couldn't tell me how to find out which version xbox I have bought could you.
Thanks
I'm guessing that all of the xbox's produced between 32/03 and 11/04 are the 1.4 versions.0 -
Those video to VGA cables don't carry the hi-res graphics clearly, and you see shadowing and worse. I've looked into the VGA convertor boxes (many from Hong Kong on Ebay) but the same stories again.
If anyone knows the answer to a clear signal VGA or DVI connection (probably with a box which amplifies the signal) then I am all ears..
My monitor also has DVI, which is preferable as it is digital (like the Xbox output) so the signal is not converted to analogue, as is the case with VGA.

Leejp, sadly you need to alter the scan rate ( frames per second ) and number of lines to get the picture stable and visible on the monitor. Hence the degradation caused by the circuitry involved. The cheaper versions will be poor as the complex timing circuitry to get a quality pic would be measured in £100s. Basically they have to chop up the picture into bits, store the bits alter their length and speed, then join it up again. Someone may have succeeded in altering the Xbox video circuits to give a Dvi or Vga signal.
You could try feeding the Xbox into a PC that has a Video capture card with an SVHS socket via suitable lead, or otherwise use the composite video and sound phono (RCA) plugs.ac's lovechild0 -
Well I give up this modding malarky is too complicated. What a waste of time.0

Using the standard xbox dash (boot it without a game in the drive) , go to SETTINGS >> SYSTEM INFO and check the dashboard version number it should be version 5960 (after all the copyright notices it will say D:1.00.5960.01)
If you have an older dashboard, rent or buy a newer (post halo 2) game with "Xbox LIVE" capability (I used FIFA 97) - boot the game and attempt to connect to xbox live (it doesn't matter if you aren't connected to anything) - this will update the dash for you.
Buy an Action Replay.
Rent (or buy a cheap 2nd hand copy of) Splinter cell (not its sequels) - any version (even the "classics" re-issue) - (I reccomend splinter cell, as you don't have to be carefull about which version you buy, and it's dirt cheap to get hold of)
Install a bit torrent client i.e ‘Azureus’ (Google it) on your PC.
Go to ISO hunt (www[dot[isohunt[dot]com) - search "Softmod installer deluxe" - download the CD or DVD version - it has more options than the basic version.
burn the CD/DD from the download.
Using your action replay, copy the 2 saves from the splinter cell directory (in your download) onto your memory card (despite reports to the contrary, the one that came with you AR is fine)
Using the standard xbox dash, copy the 2 game saves from the memory card, to your xbox hard drive.
boot splinter cell, start a game, when asked to load a profile use the game save to load the player "linux", then go to "missions"
The xbox will crash, then reboot to the softmod installer menu.
Go to the "backup" option on the softmod menu, there are 3 different things that can be backed up (C drive, Eprom, and Microsoft Dash), back up all 3.
Go to "install softmod" then choose "duel boot", then "microsoft dash / hacked dash" - you will be offered a choice of 2 different hacked dashboards, it really doesn't matter which one you choose.
Once it's installed the xbox will reboot, remove splinter cell and close the CD tray.
Your XBOX is now modded; you can boot to the standard dashboard by powering up with the eject button (leave the tray open until it's fully booted) or as a modded x-box by powering up with the power button (the light on the xbox will be green or orange depending on which dash you boot).
Now your xbox will boot from standard cdrs and dvd-rs (but usually not dvd+rs).
Boot the SID disc that you downloaded and burned to install other software (including XBMC).0 -
I found it really easy and I'm not what you'd call a techno-genius by any stretch. Even cannibalising a controller and converting a USB stick was pretty easy. Take the plunge phatboy, it's pretty sound. don't get bogged down by any of the complicated stuff, just follow will's step by step above, or find one on google, and just go for it.
It's the mutt's nuts! I love my XBMC and am already wondering how I ever did without it.
BTW pepsi, if oyu're reading this, I guess you didn't receive the USB as its still showing undelivered on the royal mail website. I'm going to put in a claim for it unless I hear from you.0 -

i also offered you a la fonera and you can still have one if you want (i think i still have a couple spare...), otherwise i have an official xbox memory card that i found in a 2nd hand store at the weekend (their only one) and you can have that if you need to replace the usb stick, otherwise it's going up on ebay with a copy of splinter cell to see what it fetches
correct.
I now have to add more words, because there is a 10 charecter minimum on posts...
as for my xbox... ones still up on ebay with deffinately no mention of xbmc on it which of course it isn't as that would be somewhat illegal and deffinately cause ebay to pull it for a third timeso a deffinately no xbmc 1.6 on ebay via my account ( pepsi_max2k ) if anyone wants. and... did i mention my ebay account was actually hijacked yesterday? oh what fun i can cancelling / changing passwords to everything i've ever signed up to. strangely enough the only really helpful people have been PayPal. go figure. anyway, I have an IP belonging to ntl which is likely botnet material but if anyone has any tips with what to do with it... already reported to virgin media's IP network abuse team.
and er... my 1.2 may be getting Debian Etch installed ( / upgraded from xebian sarge). I'm dreading the thought of how hard that's gonna be... anyone done it before?0
