  • I've made myself a USB lead, but none of my flash drives seem to be compatible with the xbox.

can someone reccomend a (cheap) flash drive tht the Xbox likes?

Has anyone tried hooking up an external HDD as a huge memory card?

Looks like older the better. Just scanned and compatible usb devices are....
    * Sandisk 128MB CF card in a USB reader

    * Kingston DataTraveler 32 and 256 MB. * Lexar JumpDrive Secure 128 and 256 MB (must be "Secure" -- other models may not work).

Personally I got lucky with the generic "barcadi" one a freebie from this sites freebie listings.

You should be able to pick one of these up for peanuts

I had no trouble with a bigger Datatraveler, think it was a 1gb? I posted exactly which one I used on either this or the other Xbox thread, can't find the thing now to check what it was. :D
  • I got one - the "Sandisk Cruzer Freedom 256MB USB2.0 Flash Drive" is less than 2 quid from svp and works fine.

Random: my datatraveler 1gb just makes the screen flash!

Now, how exactly does one make the AR software "see" a USB drive?

I posted the link a few pages back - instructions here (and Google's cache as I just had problems loading it.) You need USBview.exe which isn't linked from that page, but I got it from here.

It all worked for me with a pound-shop SD/MMC card reader and a 64Mb MMC. I got both save files onto it too, so how small are genuine memory cards??

I had to generate the datelinfo.xbx file by actually playing a game, saving it, then copying the file to the memory card, and importing it into action replay. Then I opened my new save's zip file, dragged out the datelinfo.xbx file, which I then dropped into the .zip files of the downloaded game-saves. It sounds harder than it was... The instructions for this on that linked page seem a little overly complicated.

I was lead to believe one I won on Ebay was "genuine" but it was 16 MB and I only found out later than genuine ones are 8 MB.

It worked fine though so wasn't to bothered. :D

Strange, maybe they're different types? Mine was a brown and white one.

I had a lot of trouble with Action Replay, instead I used Xplorer360 which was a lot simpler:

Hi - been away for a bit - anyway success at last - it turned out my soft mod disc didnt have the apps on it, just the soft mod.

So I ended up using another download "autoinstaller delux" and now I have a variety of apps installed on the xbox hard drive - most of which I have no idea what they do.

I can use xbmc to watch films with no dongle - however a couple of divx films burned onto cds dont seem to work.

I now feel a bit underwhelmed - I thought xbmc would play anything? Is this not the case?

I found mine to be fussy with CD's so I stick to DVD's. I have mine networked to my PC and prefer to stream directly from the hard-drive though.
