Account now successfully added to online banking. Certainly a lot quicker than the account opening itself.

I posted applications for the Monmouthshire Christmas Saver Bond (5.50%) and their Regular Saver Bond (3.75%) on Thursday 24th November.

Both accounts were opened during the first week of December.  The Christmas saver passbook was received on Friday 16th Dec and the Regular saver bond passbook was received today, 20th Dec.

Both accounts have been added to my online banking today.

Well in a discussion with Furness today they've confirmed they've not yet received my application, and since I posted it at the same time as my Monmouthshire pair, looking unlikely that MBS will ever get it.

I've messaged them asking if they've got the application and/or can provide an update on when the account will open. Still no response to that message over a week later.

    Applied 26 Nov.
Cheque cleared 13 Dec. Yesterday, 20 Dec, received letter dated 9 Dec & passbook showing account opened 2 Dec.
Keep the faith. MONBS is getting there!
  • I would normally have lost faith now we’re closing in on a month since sending the form off - especially as I couldn’t send a cheque for the opening deposit and am relying on goodwill/a friendly explanatory post it note that I included instead! Having said that the Royal Mail strike is proving incredibly effective, I normally have a steady stream of post but have only received a couple of batches of letters over the last 2-3 weeks. Keeping the faith but starting to wonder/hope if someone else will pop up with a 5.5%+ account in the meantime  ;)

The thing is, it's not like they didn't know this would happen.
In August 2020 they relaxed postcode restrictions and offered a market leading regular saver to all with online applications. They were unsurprisingly swamped with applications. Two and a bit years later they again offer a market leading regular saver open to all. The only difference this time was postal rather than online applications, yet once again unsurprisingly they were swamped with them.

I'm not knocking MonBS for offering the account, indeed as someone outside their usual postcode restrictions it's very welcome, but surely there is someone there who remembers and had the foresight to say "hang on, remember what happened the last time we did this?"

On the Monmouthshire BS online application accounts, for example the easy access, is it fully apply online, or does it just generate a filled application form for you that you need to print off, sign, and post to them please? Thank you
