The problem with a dedicated thread is that you have two places to search. If the dedicated were devoted to 'mine has arrived too' it would probably be worth it, but how to you achieve that?
A lot to be said for the status quo. What also happens is you often end up with two parallel discussions and difficulty in keeping up with both without missing something important, and a lot of duplication.I tend to prefer it where all the discussion is in one place - even though the discussion about a provider or account that I don't have(/have no interest in) can get a bit much sometimes, I remind myself it is the price we pay for having centralised discussions rather than separate threads being started for each and every piece of news or new account.4 -

People telling you their blow by blow manoeuvres again and again. This frequently would add nothing to a dedicated thread (as I've done earlier) but it certainly dilutes the main thread to the point it's tough to know what's going on - to the point people have given up on it.
Suspect the people (me included) who chase these deals are frequently the same people with lots of time on their hands.
I.e. people with busier lives wouldn't have time to a) chase these deals and b) think and giving blow by blow details (which are just a repeat of a previous post+n) adds anything at all.0 -
I posted off my application form in late November and haven't heard anything back yet.
From the comments on here I'm wondering if I have misinterpreted the account funding requirements.
Everyone seems to mention sending a cheque. I didn't, as I no longer have a cheque book on my current account.
I read the terms and it says the account can be funded by bank transfer or standing order. I'd assumed that once they processed my application form they would send me the bank details to send my opening deposit to.
However it also says that the minimum opening amount is £10 and that minimum must be maintained. Does that mean I should have sent a cheque for at least £10 with my application form?0 -
Sending a cheque is just a technique to try and ease/quicken account opening even if not explicitly mentioned with institutions.
I wouldn't worry too much as MBS will probably still open up the account albeit needing funding a later date.
Those of us who've written cheques are probably disadvantaged in that the money is languishing in low paid current accounts until they are drawn.
Hold on in there1 -
Received my passbook in the post today. Account opened on 2 December with £200 by cheque. Have set up standing order for £200 monthly, starting 3 January. Account now showing online after entering account number.
Edited to add:- Accompanying letter said passbook was enclosed plus a list of other things (eg product terms and conditions) but only passbook and letter were in the envelope. Clearly the staff are working at speed to get things out and have omitted to include all the enclosures except the passbook. I'm just happy to know that account is open and to have the account number.2 -
