I'm in again for next year please. I've slowed right down - 375 out, 122 in, so I'm still over 100 short of my target, but it's made me so much better at resisting the impulse buy and I can see results. I don't think I'm on maintenance yet - it looks tidy enough to invite someone in, but there are shelves and storage boxes doing quite a lot of work and they're all full (I've got three staplers for a start, and five stacks of post it notes. Pretty colours, but still) - so I'll perhaps aim for a balance of 52 more things out than in for 2024.

Tomorrow my aim is to rid myself of the goodness knows how many pairs of socks in one of the drawers in my bedroom. What does one do with them If I have one pair I have a couple of dozen and I only have one pair of feet :)The CS won't take them, and I can't think of what to do with them. Only so many dusters and cleaning bits you can use them for. They may have to go to the tip on Saturday,
I have two large chest of drawers in my bedroom and they are so full of clothes that when I say I have a laundry basket full of clean clothes downstairs its because all the drawers in my bedroom are stuffed full so there is nowhere to put them away and the wardrobe won't take anything else. I really must ask my eldest why I still have her wedding dress in a box on top of my wardrobe when she's been married happily for the past 35 years i think its time it went to her house to sort out
They really do need serious decluttering I think.I have more clothes than I will ever have years left in my life to wear themalong with shoes, boots, wellies, summer shoes, sandals, winter shoes, about 6 pairs of trainers at least
I've really got to take myself to task tomorrow as DGS Jack is returning on Friday to help declutter (in my words derubbish ) the big cupboard in the Lobby, plus the last bit of the Glory Hole so if I do some of the clothes from the bedroom tomorrow and bag them up
One pile for CS and one pile for (past it donations ) at least it will save him a job.
The more that can go the better I think. I think there are still some pairs of my late husbands shoes in one cupboard and I've been widowed over 20 years and they've never been worn.
Its not until you start looking you realise how much unnecessary stuff you accumulate over time . It was bad enough in 1995 when we retired and downsized from our family sized 4 bed place to aa much smaller 3 bed one down in Kent from London. But I certainly don't intend to cart all this stuff to the IoW with me its just got to go.
I did drop a bag of stuff off today plus a smaller bag of ornament that were basically dust catchers from the two spare rooms as I rarely need to go in there, I never see them anyway so a lot of them went to the CS as well
Golly its becoming an addiction this decluttering

@weenancyinAmerica
I think you deserve some down time. Take as long as you need.
Meanwhile - my person who immediately said they could collect the foot spa tonight is, of course, non responsive and a no show. On to person 2 who actually seemed much nicer. I've got a number of others lined up on the off chance.

Mine is way too big but 5 minutes from the shops/ station and closed off to through traffic so difficult , Dd 2 should be abroad for a year for uni in 2 years and dd1 finished so.aim to be in a smaller home and maybe part tike as a step to retirement.
Mrs SD in awe of your cheerleading and keeping us all in such good form as a declutter family..
In office tomorrow and have 1 small item sold which I need to post12 -
1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks to include MMiM - do this before I go to bed
2. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ I have an acronym - I.R.I.S. being Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off
3. Implement a new sleep/wake up regime - start going to bed earlier (target before 2:00 a.m.) get up earlier (target by 9:00 a.m.)
4. Deal with ‘Urgent’ daily mail immediately & the rest at the weekend
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. If I spot a mini task deal with it immediately e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
7. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
I spent the rest of the afternoon knitting & watching more episodes of Waking The Dead. Dinner was breaded fish, oven chips & peas. Wudupa.
2520 - 2521 Kitchen recycling, drinks cans - recycled
2522 Kitchen detritus binned
Good news Brie 😊 Hopefully the foot spa will soon be in its new home 🤞
weenancy, of course you can stay aboard 😊 Don’t forget we have the Japanese inspired sleep pods, a library with attached computer room, the massage chairs & you can also have access to the buffet car 😉 However, please remember that you are there to rest so no pitching in with the cleaning crew although they might appreciate a cuppa if you have the kettle on 😉
flamingo747, hopefully you like ironing 😉 Excellent decluttering 👏 & good luck thinning out the wardrobes so that MrF’s new clothing fits comfortably 🍀
That is a great tip daisy_1571 👏
diminua, you might have fallen a little short of your intended target BUT it is a great bonus that you are resisting impulse buys 👏 I have reserved you a seat on the 2024 EDT & made a note of your goal 😊
flamingo747, another great tip re washing & ironing shirts 👏
Sorry to hear that you are feeling overwhelmed by RL, TC77 😔 Your seat is reserved & we can all share our plans & hopes for a successful decluttering journey in 2024 😊 Meanwhile I am sending cwtches 🤗 So close 😉
Good work flamingo747 👏
London_1 you have a very busy couple of days planned 🤩 Re the socks, perhaps a homeless or refugee centre might be grateful to receive them - if you have a local one. Good luck thinning out your clothing & footwear 🍀 perhaps when DGS Jack has finished helping you, he can be hired out to your fellow declutterati 😉 “Its not until you start looking you realise how much unnecessary stuff you accumulate over time” - very succinctly put 😊 The challenge is being brave enough to release items to new homes or dispose of them responsibly 😔 Love that you are finding decluttering addictive 😅
Brie, fingers crossed the 2nd person picks up the foot spa 🤞
TC77, hopefully the right house will come along in a similar area close to both shops & public transport 🤞 Keep up the good work with the decluttering & not only will you be in better position to move but also to start your journey towards working part time 😊
Good night everyone, sleep tight 😴

I don't like ironing, but I can put radio 4 on or a good podcast! Because he's been doing shiftwork he's mostly home in the day times, so I'll suddenly be home alone during the day, more time to declutter, clean, probably do some volunteering and get back to craft group.
More reclutter than declutter today, we are picking up presents from SIL today, a 3 hour round trip.Married 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.

Hi all, the only thing decluttered today is a couple of covid tests and a bottle of throat spray. I woke up feeling as rough as the bottom of a bird cage. I dosed myself up with all kinds rummaging through the medicines to see what might help. Only then did it occur to me I should probably do a test. I actually did 3 as the first 2 were faintly positive but considering what I had put up my nose and sprayed down my throat plus the tests were ood I decided I needed new ones so had a shower and cleaned my teeth, donned a mask and headed to the pharmacy.. New in date test negative, so the ood have been binned along with the empty throat spray bottle. The only other thing I did today was go to the footy
. The weather was and still is wild, blowing a hooley and horizontal rain but it was worth it as it was a good game
. Had something to eat when I got home and I am now in bed with a hot drink and some new meds. We are supposed to be going to a carol singing party tomorrow but depending how I feel I might send OH without me, plus I will do another test.
@flamingo747, re shirts I always put them on hangars straight out of the machine and they either hang on the line or the maiden to dry. As for ironing OH does them. I don't wear anything like that so not my job, maybe your DH can be persuaded to do his own ironing. I am a great believer in fair distribution of labour, especially where ironing is concerned
.I have yet to crack the rest of the housework but I have got the ironing nailed
@weenancyinAmerica I don't think anyone would blame you if you took months and months in the tlc carriage. Honestly you do so much I am in awe. You need to take some time just for you and maybe be a bit stricter with the roommates. I know you try really hard with them but sometimes I just want to come over and shout at them. Totally wrong thing to do I know but that's what I feel. You are amazing with everything you do for others and I just wish they appreciated you more, big hugs.
@London_1 if you don't want to use the socks could they be donated to a homeless shelter, if you have one nearby. I know it's one of the things the shelters here are always asking for, likewise your husband's shoes. Just a thought
I will continue to post on this thread until the last possible moment in the vain hope of getting to my target, I know it's not likely but I live in hope, and I will decide on my target for next year when I start posting on the new thread
Right off to sleep now, hugs to anybody who would like one
1655 + 1656 ood covid tests
1657 empty throat spray
Take care everyone
