Just to verify: DVDs must arrive back at the LOVEFILM company at least 1 working day before your account is cancelled if this is what you wish to do. The free month for me ends Monday. I downgraded as I will obviously not be able to get back the DVDs to them in time (one I mailed back yesterday has already 5.30pm been sent out again, tried to cancel but was informed it had already been mailed out and I'd expect it to arrive Wednesday at best going on past experience, (4 working days or 6 days if you include the weekend) I only seem to get post every other day where I live). I downgraded to cost less and then cancel, makes more sense for me.

Service used to be really fast when I was first a member, could end up with 2 or 3 films over a week. Then it started to slow down, I'd watch a film, send it back and sometimes it'd be four days before a new one arrived. It annoyed me so I put my membership back down to £3.99 a month, no point forking out a tenner when you spend half your time waiting.

start paying the service goes downhill.

That is unfair. The only way it takes 4 days is NOT Lovefilm fault. They have a one day turnaround from sending next discs which very very rarely stretches further in extreme circs.. any delay is Royal Mail's fault. It is not a downhill service at Lovefilm but at Roal Mail. They are very aware that they are often gettin a shoddy services for their money with Royal Mail. It is something both they and me are monitoring. On the 3 discs package I sometimes get about 10 days worth from it and is it this Mail issue that is hurting their company and meaning some ppl leave.

Anyone on a free trial and then wanting to cancel before they get charged needs to empty their list of titles before they send their last discs back. That way they can't send any others out that might go past the end trial date. This has been the commeon practice for years now. Downgrading, which automatically ended your trial anyway, wouldn't have been necessary.

No criticism intended, but people need to research threads like these to find the best ways of ending trials like this
  • I am fine with Lovefilm.
Been with them for a few years now and it tends to work - films arrive in 2-3 days, and the odd time that nothing has arrived after 4 or 5 working days, they just sent another one out with no argument and it arrived next working day. As for which ones come - we keep a long list and don't really worry about what comes when, but if we do prioritise a few titles, one of them does normally come. Stuff happens, but generally It's as good as a bulk/post-dependent company is able to be.

I understand that I have ended my free trial and thats the only way I could see around it: I called to cancel friday, the free trial I have ends Monday but they had already sent out a disk. It was too late, I knew this. I am halfway through a series which is why I was reluctant to end it! I had hoped they'd give me extra time to mail stuff back but they don't, downgrading was my only other option.

Its really unfair though as its the Post's fault, not mine nor LoveFilm. I get 2-3 deliverys a week... (I know this as I hear from other residents and can see postal date marks on envelopes) These postal dates tend to be all consecutive days too. I am in London, its not as if its hidden in the middle of nowhere! I doubt the post boxes round here get emtied much more then that too. Its likely post people are on their holidays, fine, but then at least offer some sort of discount or compensation for being so rubbish this time of year!

I've not had any problems with them so far, I took out a trial in January and carried it on.

I just rent games and can send one game back say on Monday they receive it Tuesday and more often than not I get the new one back on Wednesday.

Like the films they don't look at the priority list, so if there's a game my son want to try then he clears everything out of the list and leaves the one he wants.

  • I'm sending films back on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday and not getting their replacements until the following Tuesday and Wednesday.

Plus they never send me the films I really want. I've had some films on my list for six months.

Thinking of knocking it on the head quite frankly.

No problems with dvd's yet with lovefilm. They more or less send what I ask for in order and priority. I just make sure I never put anything on my list I don't want to see, that way i'm never disappointed. Lovefilm does work out better than Sky in my opinion, the tv package prices are crazy! Plus the rentals stopped me buying dvds, which was one of my major money spending vices.

But.... still not had promo £20 sendit voucher yet from lovefilm after joining in mid May.

I've complained several times, the last time I received an email telling me it would be dispatched in 30 days and they gave me a free film rental to compensate.

30 days later (today) I sent an email asking where my voucher is. Standard response about sending my email as a priority to their promotional department. I've insisted they tell me why its delayed and how they intend to compensate me this time?

Will let you all know how it turns out....
Former MSE user - I don't post on MSE anymore, or respond to PMs. I would like to be able to officially set profile to "former user" which would be helpful as it seems you can never leave MSE - just choose not to use it!
  • I've just tried to cancel my Lovefilm subscription after the free trial, it expires on Wednesday and my intention was to put the discs in the post today ready for first post tomorrow. Was told that if they don't receive the discs by Tuesday I will be charged on Wednesday, and this is always a problem... Well, I've never had a problem before, the discs turnaround amazingly quick and always arrive there within a day of posting.
I am beginning to wonder if this is a ploy to persuade me to pay another month...
