No problems with Tesco DVD rental at all personally. After reading comments in the other threads Lovefilm and their associated brands including Tesco seem to be a bit better than the rest. I don't know if anyone is interested but Tesco DVD rental are doing a 2 months free offer worth up to £35. This is even available to people who have had an account before but have cancelled it. To get the 2 months free goto:
    tescodvdrental(dot)com/partnership/springrental

Then enter the code 8XX7AQ73A. Rental can be for DVD, Blu-ray and even games.

I hope this helps someone. Thanks

hate to burst anyone's bubble here but Tesco dvd and game rental is run by love film. so instead of getting the film in a love film package with a love film sticker you get it in a tesco package with a tesco label.

So who ever your with be it tesco or love film your getting the same service from the same company

I've used them for a year and when I read some of these negative posts it's like I'm in a different paralell reality where everything is backwards.

I always get films i set as hi priority, I always get dvds sent right away after returning one. The only time I've ever had a delay was during the postal strikes and that wasn;t even their fault.

    Great service, great price

as a user of 2 years or so following a free trial and 600 or so dvds later I have had the same experience as you. Excellent customer service on the phone - some complete stars working there. Lousy customer service via emails - often not really understanding English.. Anyone has any questions on the Lovefilm experience feel free to fire away..

Can I ask for some advice?

I have a free trial which runs out on the 15th, on Sunday. The account I have with them says money will be debited on the 16th of Aug which is Monday.

Being that there is no post at the weekend, does this mean I need to get any DVDs back to them by Friday (the 13th?) or will they tollerate me sending them back at the weekend/arriving back to them on Tuesday?

Has anyone any experience with cancelling on the last day and how long they give you to return the outstanding DVDs? (or if they give you any time at all)

I have always returned them so they have them back before the end date and then cancel before the payment is due. That way they can't say "we haven't received the discs back" and charge another month.

They sometimes say when you cancel all discs must be returned within so many days, but if you don't want to continue with the service why take the risk? Even sending them Thursday doesn't gurantee they will get them Friday (or will process the returns Friday).

Jennie I wouldnt send them back @ the last minute myself as I know that sometimes it has taken Royal mail 5 or 6 days and sometimes more to actually drop them on Lovefilms doorstep..

  • I was with lovefilm for a couple of months after I got tempted to join by a very tasty chap in my local shopping centre. At first I thought it was great, until I realised I could only have two dvds a month (he made it sound like I could watch one, send one back get another, so on and so on)

After my first month I decided to upgrade to £9.99 unlimited rentals, made my huge list, put the films I wanted to see first into high priority. Low and behold lovefilm chose to send out the films on medium or low before high? Not sure why, no availability issues. So I ended up clearing my list just to get the film I wanted.

After that a couple of DVDs didn't play, our dvd player can be abit dodgy so gave the disks a clean and tried them in our other dvd players and my ps3, still wouldn't play and ended up skipping so sent them back as faulty, assuming that they'd send out another copy, wrong it turns out, totally ignored the fact I'd marked them faulty.

Service used to be really fast when I was first a member, could end up with 2 or 3 films over a week. Then it started to slow down, I'd watch a film, send it back and sometimes it'd be four days before a new one arrived. It annoyed me so I put my membership back down to £3.99 a month, no point forking out a tenner when you spend half your time waiting.

Had another faulty dvd, still taking 4 days to arrive so I decided to cancel, the woman tried to offer me one disk for a quid a month (whats the point in that) or to tempt me to hire games, other than that was quite happy to let me go. Never received any vouchers or anything from them through the post, just the delayed disks.

If your not bothered about waiting, then use lovefilm, if you don't like waiting, theres other ways and means of seeing a film or tv series.
Overall I didn't have that great a experience and wouldn't really recommend them. But by all means use their free trials, they'll send your dvds fast and anything you want to tempt you into paying, but once you start paying the service goes downhill.
Just me, in my own little world
