Well I've been on the phone for the best part of the morning now; called 02 who referred me to Ofcom... ofcom referred me back to consumer direct and they advised to write a letter to o2 asking them nicely if they could cancel the contract and what I've paid so far is lost (4x£40=£160) and worst of all I still have 14 months to go on the contract so that's another £560.
Consumer trading also gave me the details to the insolvency service so that I could possibly go on Express mobile's list of creditors as they have gone into liquidation (long shot I know but no harm in trying). So I called the Insolvency service and they advised that Express mobiles have actually 'dissolved' and that means they've totally vanished and no one can claim anything back.
I guess the only thing left to do is write to o2.
I'm really disappointed and stressed over the situation, really can't afford to be throwing money away like this.

Spoke to o2 just now and they've agreed to change the remaining 14 months of my contract to £20 a month for 75 mns and 125 texts; am v distressed that I'm having to pay another £280 for another 14 months on top of the £160 I've already paid. Think I've tried all avenues now and not much else I can do... £440 altogether down the drain for a contract I don't even want.
• I to have had a few problems with Express Mobiles. The Express mobiles you are quoting above are not out of business. The express mobiles you need is below. Still trading but apparently only through the website.

Well this is all very interesting and distressing. However I had a conversation with "Samantha" on 26.2.08 chasing up my cheque yet again. She was very sarcastic and rude which was to be expected as this company is a joke. She said I would get a £120 cheque by the end of that week. I duly received said cheque 3.3.08 but I'm just about to pay it in and expect it to bounce especially as they may have gone bust. The website does exist but is this just a disguise? However I have contacted the insolvency service(08456029848) who say that Telco Ltd(Trading as Express Mobiles)are still an active company. The address they have on their records is

Telco Ltd
24 Picton House
Hussar Court
Waterlooville
P07 7SQ

It would appear they've moved into another block or something as this address is mysteriously similar to another address that has been quoted in Jack W's earlier post in this thread. To add to this confusion however the post mark on the envelope which my cheque came in is Fareham, Hants, this maybe linked to the address in Meindl earlier post. What should we make of it all?

Orange have told me before that the cannot take any responsiblity with regards to EM. I have 11 months left to run so I'll just now have to see if they can put me on another tariff, if TL/EM have indeed been liquadated . I'm embarrassed that I have been hoodwinked by this company but it is a lesson I have learnt very well.

Am getting really confused now; have they gone bust dor havent they?
O2 and the insolvency service seemed to think that they had so not sure what to believe now??
I do wish they haven't and I can possibly get my money back but can;t see any light at the end of the tunnel... :(
I wrote to Telco Ltd at 11 Dragoon Hse, Hussar Court, Waterlooville, PO7 7FS via recorded last week but have not heard anything back. It's not looking good is it.

Shock horror; I sent care@expressmobiles.uk.com an email this afternoon and received a reply saying;

'Sincere apologies for the delay
We are awaiting new chequebooks from our issueing bank, upon reciept of
these a cheque will be raised immediatly.
Kind Regards'

Could this be true!?!

I am taking it with a very large pinch of salt at the moment...
• Same problem. First claim went in early December. I spoke to Sam on 21st jan, got the story about a Xmas backlog. I mailed them today threatening small claims court action.
Oh well, when I took this I didn't really expect it to work but I'll keep trying.
Let you know how I get on.
• Hi everyone.

I am having same problem. I was with vodafone and recieved the same txt message, promising free line rental...blah, blah. I sent the first three bill copies by post which Ali said hadnt been recieved and could I resend them, i did this via e-mail and havent recieved anything back from them, i sent the second 3months bills to them by e-mail, i recieved a confirmation but nothing else. i tried to call them yesterday (12th march 2008) and found that they are no longer taking calls so i sent an e-mail threatening legal action. Then spookily, today as I was looking through this forum samantha actually phoned me and informed me that they had "run out of cheques" and were waiting for new cheque books and that I will recieve my cheques as soon as this happens. We will see!! however, 02 are going to be looking in to this and have said that if i dont recieve this cash back then they will try and repay me or will allow me to terminate my contract.
• this is the number that samantha phoned me from

• well as very few poeple have actually managed to 'claim' their cheque back, i feel sure there must be something we can all do if we join forces. At the very least the airtime providers should take some responsibilty for allowing these charlatans to punt their contracts for them..........has anyone contacted watchdog? or any of the newspaper fix it columns? my partner told me he had heard of another such dealer going broke owing thousands of customers money back, which must have been on the news or radio, so shouldn't one of the big guns be doing a story on this, to save others from our plight? and with a bit of luck, make it harder for express mobiles to re-invent themselves with a different name/ same scam by the end of the month.
